Hi Gentle Peas, I don't set up Go Fund Me accounts unless it were an emergency. Well this is an emergency. My BFF who is a Pea and is a long-time Pea has hurt herself. She needs total knee replacement surgery which is not fun, but it is life. She lives in Kodiak, AK and has to have the surgery in Anchorage. Normally short-term disability would cover this, but she doesn't have it to pay her while she is off work. Amber and I have been best friends since the beginning of the friendship. How do you become BFFs at the beginning of a friendship? I don't know how it happened. She is just the kind of friend who will stand by you for everything. I would cover the cost of the surgery myself if I could. She is that good a friend. If Go Fund Me isn't your thing, could you please pray or send positive thoughts, skip stones into the ocean/lake etc. or whatever you believe it please do it. It all counts in the end and the positive energy helps. With love, Dawn Elannah and amblet www.gofundme.com/amberletuli

Does she have medical insurance? Your goal seems very low. My total knee replacements were $60K each. Then for six weeks I had physical therapy on each knee (12 weeks total) - twice a week with a $20 co-pay for each visit.

She evidently does not have paid sick time or disability available.

A TKA is not something that would be done on an injury. It's more with arthritis, or a long term injury that has developed.

She can get disability while out... She can in 90 days. That's the problem. She has no short-term disability. I asked her about every possible angle with the government in the US through Unemployment Insurance or SSDI or anything and she isn't eligible for any of it. That is why the Go Fund Me.

A TKA is not something that would be done on an injury. It's more with arthritis, or a long term injury that has developed. She tore her ACL getting off a plane and the arthritis in the knee is so bad that she has to choose between ACL repair with tibialostomy or total knee replacement. The dr. can't guarantee the tibialostomy will last longer than 5 years she opted to only have surgery once and not twice. (You are a physio so this makes more sense to you than me...)

Thank you everybody for your positive thoughts. Surgery went well but recovery has not bee what i expected. I had a small stroke during surgery that seems to be effecting my language more than anything which is difficult for me to deal with as a nurse It is improving slowing and I am home and doing well. I developed severe edema of my legs and had a stitch pop and and have been draining a lot of lymph fluid through a small hole in the incision that is open on my right leg I do have insurance and the go fund me account was for living costs because my PTO was exhausted. On another note my son is doing well in a group home in Anchorage and stabilized on medications.

However, allow your body the time it needs, which means slow improvement. When my husband was recovering from shoulder surgery, I wanted to duct tape him to the chair. (((Hugs)))
