I'm looking for some ideas for a weekend getaway for 4 - 45 year old ladies. Every 5 years 4 of us friends leave our husbands and children at home and go on some sort of get away and can't think of where we should go this year. We did Las Vegas the year we turned 40, this year we've thought about Montreal, Seattle, Southern BC (wine country) etc but nothing has grabbed us yet.
Any unique Ideas? We will go this Fall, usually like to go for 3 to 5 days, and try to go somewhere our families aren't too interested in going.

sun valley idaho... there is a jazz festival in october, there is plenty to do outdoors or there is lots of art galleries, great small shop shopping, the best thrift store (the gold mine). music, movies, free buses to get around.. friendly people, great food choices and it is a very walkable place. the weather is also good in the fall.

Ashville, NC. Great food, and the Blue .ridge Parkway will be sooo beautiful in the fall. there's Biltmore House and gardens, and lots or trails along the Parkway for hiking/strolling. Lots to see and do.

Do you plan to stay in the US/Canada? If so, then Savannah, New York, St. Augustine. If not, then Barcelona, Paris or Prague!

I second Sanibel. If you want some music, how about Nashville. History, could be Williamsburg. Sunshine, how about a short cruise.

DH and I have done the wineries in BC several times and it's very fun. We like the interior BC wines. Your money will go far. Montreal is a fantastic city with very good food. Seattle is also a great touristy city.
I would suggest San Fran or Napa.
Paige.

Are you wanting big cities with shopping, museums and restaurants? We have done extended weekend trips to NYC, Chicago, San Francisco and LA and I'd happily go to any of those cities again. Sante Fe, Portland and Toronto are also on our list for future trips. I used to live in Seattle and we've all spend many days there, otherwise it would be on the list, too. We also spend time in the Palm Springs area, but things quiet down from May-Oct, so it really depends on when you go. There are festivals and events every week Nov-April. I don't worry too much about it being somewhere the family might want to go because I've gone to most of these cities (before or after) with the family. Everything is different when the trip is with my girlfriends . San Diego is also a great choice.

Have you ever visited the Twin Cities? There are two expensive hotels attached to the MOA or several affordable hotels nearby. The weather in MN is amazing in the fall. Plan a Segway tour of the Mississippi River, tour the Mill City Museum, visit the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, go to Minnehaha Falls...
Minneapolis is a big foodie town - so check out some of our restaurants.

Niagara Falls & Niagara on the Lake.
Fly into Buffalo or Niagara Falls NY (tiny) airport & rent a car and drive over the border. Fall is grape harvest & there's festivals, Shaw Theater, shopping (new outlet mall), fabulous food options, casinos and due to the value of the Cdn $, your money goes about 25% further.

My friends and I have gone to Key Largo, San Francisco, and Asheville, NC. (In Asheville, we did a food tour, an artists studio tour, and visited the Biltmore Estate.)

We went on a wine tour in the Oliver, BC area a couple of years ago and hope to do it again this summer The wineries are so great and quite close together so you can hit a number of them everyday ... The fact that the Canadian dollar is so crappy right now would mean that you would be definitely getting your money's worth

This may not be high on the list. Last October myself and two girlfriends did a girlfriends weekend at Food and Wine at Disney. We walked, talked and ate our way thru Epcot. We had a blast, already planning to do it again,

I would head to Nashville. I listen to a radio show from there and it sounds like a fun place! I'm from San Diego and we have plenty of things to do here. Fall is still hot (Sept/Oct) so if you're looking for fall beach weather, this would be your place.

For fall I'd want somewhere with great fall foliage. When my kids are gone from home I'm heading to the Maritimes in the fall. What about Nova Scotia?
The Okanagan is great, would be quiet anytime after Labour Day weekend. If it's a wine tour the stretch between Osoyoos and Oliver has countless wineries. Old Montreal is nice. Seattle is expensive (so is San Francisco) and even more so with our crappy dollar. What about Vancouver Island or Jasper?

I second Disney. There are tons of great things for adults to do - especially at EPCOT.
My friends and I have spent a long weekend in the North GA Mountains. There are beautiful cabins/houses available in Bent Tree or Big Canoe.
Savannah would also be fun for a girls weekend.
Have fun where ever you decide to go!

Seattle Newport, Oregon or any coastal towns on the Oregon Coast my favorite spot home away from home. Southern BC is in that same and beautiful. Would love to see more of it. Do you want to drive? Portland and San Fransico there is always stuff to do and see too. Love the east coast too. NYC, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod. St. Augustine and any of the Carolinas are next on my bucket list.\ It would be fun to go with some girlfriends.
