New to the Mac. Was just on Facebook and clicked a link and it said i'd gotten a virus. Wanted to download some virus protection to my toolbar, but I don't think it actually did.
Anyway now i'm wondering, I know some people use something to scan their Mac's for viruses, correct? What should I be using??

never ever click on the link that says you have a virus. Once you click on that link, you will have a virus, at the very least!

If you can't get out of the virus link (sometimes it won't let you) click on your internet icon and turn off your internet. That will get you out of the link. Those links will ask you for a small fee and then put it back on your computer in a few weeks for a higher price. You don't need it. The guy at the genius bar put Adware Medic on my computer last summer. I haven't had an issue since I put that on.

I had that happen on my iPad. Locked it up. Called apple support and they had me clear browser history and cookies. It went away.

Non techy, but I was under the impression that Macs were far less vulnerable to viruses. Is that true?

Sophos is the best virus protection for Mac computers. My company uses it on all the Unix/Linux based servers in all of our data centers globally. Download here: Sophos AV for Mac

Non techy, but I was under the impression that Macs were far less vulnerable to viruses. Is that true? That was my impression too, which was why I was so stunned by it happening! I've only had the computer about a month or two and don't use it often. Will definitely take all the suggestions you've all given, thank you!

I don't use any virus protection on my macs.
WHATEVER you do... DO NOT download MacKeeper. It is a nightmare to get rid of !!

I use ClamXAv at the recommendation of my boss who has only ever used Macs. At one time it was free but they have gone to a paid download now.
