I'm in The Woodlands and it was horrible all night long. The thunder was shaking the windows. Power kept blipping off and on all night long. School was canceled so I have a very happy 15 year old DS. It's slowed down considerably but I think more rain is on the way. Everyone be safe!!

Are you having flooding in your area? We keep our small plane near Sealy and access is a gravel road. I told DH it will probably be awhile before we can get out there. I just hope the hangar doesn't flood because we have a good bit of furniture stored there. I live in Sealy and it is really bad. I-10 west is closed from the Brazos River out past Sealy. Sealy, Austin and Waller Counties have shut down and asked everyone to stay off the streets. Waller County is asking for people with boats if they can volunteer their time, they need the boats for rescues. A Brookshire/Pattison area shelter that was set up at the high school can not take in anymore people due to flooding. I work out in Cat Spring, west of Sealy, and we are closed due to water over the roads that direction. I heard there is a 40' x 30' deep sink hole on FM 1094 just past Cat Spring. I couldn't get off my road due to the water and parts of it have never had water over it. We had a lull in the rain and it is starting again. Been raining here since 8:30 last night. A coworker and I were talking who lives in Sealy and part of her street was evacuated last night. She has water up to her doors. She said she is living in the middle of a lake. I am going to have to build an ark!

I'm in Pearland where it's bad but not nearly as bad as other areas. Our school district didn't cancel. I heard a man being interviewed on the radio from the Houston Flood Management say that even if it were to stop raining now that it would take at least 36 hours to go down! Yeah, I'll be surprised if HISD has school tomorrow, either. We shall see. Think we'll have to make up the day(s)?

Fortunately, I'm in an area that doesn't flood. The Community College I teach at is closed and I'm happy about that because I don't want my students driving in this and also because I'm exhausted. I didn't get any sleep last night between my dogs freaking out due to the thunder and my phone ringing with constant weather alerts. I'm so sad for one of my friends in Katy. She has breast cancer and was going to have a double mastectomy this morning. Her surgeon called early this morning and said the surgery would have to be postponed because the surgical team couldn't make it to the hospital. My heart really breaks for her, because she had prepared herself mentally and was ready to get the surgery over and done with. This absolutely breaks my heart. I have had a mastectomy and I know what it took to prepare myself mentally for it. To have it postponed would be absolutely devastating. Sending her prayers and good thoughts. I'm in the Temple/Belton area and we have had rain but nothing like y'all have had. Stay safe!!

I live in Friendswood and my subdivision is fine. DH works in the Med Center and is working from home. CCISD is sending kids home early, my niece and nephew are thrilled! I work in Galveston, but am home sick. Otherwise I would be at work. I had no idea this was coming. Guess I need to watch the weather reports more often.

Text at 4:44, call at 4:56. Office was delayed until 10, so I went back to sleep until 8:30. It was wonderful.
I swear the local neighborhood Facebook group is going to make me stabby. I need to just unsubscribe. Today they are debating the best way to swim out of a submerged car with an infant. "Don't drive into the water" is apparently not the correct answer. Am I that cynical (I am, but indulge me here) to think that there women are just f$&@ing stupid? Seriously. 24 years in Houston, three kids, and "don't drive into the water" has always worked pretty well for me as a life strategy. Is it me? Just give me a pea-smackdown if making a conscious decision to not drive into high water is such a bad idea.

Did you see the news report about the woman who drowned in her car in the Galleria area? Her husband said she called him, said she saw flashing lights and was waiting on help to arrive. Help wasn't on the way and she drowned. Why on earth did she not try to get out of the car instead of just sitting there? Boggles the mind.

His car was sinking fast, and he was clinging to the car going "what do i do? what do i do?" The reporter is yelling at him "SWIM!" And then the driver says "stay here?" OMG, people!

I'm at work sipping on a giant diet coke I don't have any school age kids, so no robo calls for me last night. I already knew the class I teach at the community college had been cancelled for today, so I got to sleep in. I slept like a log last night, which certainly wasn't the case on Sunday night/Monday morning. Between the torrential rains, the thunder, lightening, dogs who were freaking out and constant weather alerts on my phone I think I slept for about 5 minutes. I feel bad complaining at all. So many people have lost so much, and we didn't have any flooding at our home.

Wow! So many of you are right around where I am. I live in Sugar Land, but work at Newcastle and 59, VERY near where the road goes under 59 and the woman drowned...which is the EXACT location of a drowning last May. Really people? Why are you driving into that huge dip in the road? I do not understand it!!!

I feel terrible for the people and their families of those who lost their lives, but damn. Why the hell are you even on the roads?

A bit off topic - you should join in next time we do a pea get together! There are quite of few of us in this part of town.

When there is a giant yellow ruler that measures the depth of the water in FEET you would think that would give people some clue. FEET! The 15 means you are about to drive into 15 feet of water. This does not seem like rocket science to me. Argh.

I watched Steve Campion and the guy in his flooding car. I get that he was panicked and probably in shock and was having a hard time comprehending the right thing to do. But the driving into the water? I don't get that at all. I used to work where I had to take that Westpark underpass and I was always leery of it, even when the rain was just a couple sprinkles.
The whole situation is horrible though. So many people have lost so much, and some twice in less than a year (three of my friends in Meyerland got flooded AGAIN). For many, this is the first time they have ever flooded... it is unprecedented in many areas, whereas in others it should come as no surprise.
DH could not make it to work yesterday (we live in Sugar Land and he works in the energy corridor), but they already had three flood jobs (cars) that were brought in before end of day. He expecting at least 10 this week alone.
My company contracts quite a bit with HP, in the Cypress/Tomball area. The entire Houston campus of HP is underwater. The garages are flooded as is the first floor of most buildings. Equipment, labs, testing facilities... ruined. They are pumping water out of my client group's main building right now. It is going to be a long few weeks.

I live and teach in the Cypress area. The area is a mess right now. Hoping Cypress Creek crests soon but still worrying about Lake Houston overflowing and these pop up thunderstorms, with no where to go all that is expected to come this way. My family is fine but a few streets over in our subdivision it is waist deep water and evacuations. I have students and former students with water in their homes or currently watching the water creep closer to their doors. Still waiting to hear what's being decided about school but the photos and unofficial reports show that at least a dozen schools have sustained some type of flooding or damage. With the amount of standing water and impassable roadways, I can't imagine we are going back any time this week.
