Sorry about the title of the thread...it sounds kind of wonky but I hope you'll understand when you read my post.
For those of us who have been scrapbooking for a while, you may have a host of 12 x 12, 8-1/2 x 11, 6 x 6, 8 x 8 scrapbooks on your shelves that portray a progression of styles, scrap fads and embellishments from over the years. But I have found that outside of an ongoing 12 x 12 family Christmas album and an 8-1/2 x 11 Alaska album (that still isn't finished), I've veered away from the "traditional" form of scrapping. Ever since the smash book came out, I've found that I prefer the "smash" type of scrapbooking with no particular style in mind. Photos placed here and there with journaling and layers of embellishments, haphazardly placed on the pages is now the way to go for me. I also like the Project Life or pocket-page style of scrapbooking and will even incorporate some pocket pages into my scrap journals, as I like to call them. I love creating these books from scratch using left over chipboard covers, scraps, pages and assorted ephemera to embellish my musings.
Is anyone else into this or another "non-traditional" style of scrapping? Please share what you like to do!

When I started scrapping, I did 8 1/2 x 11 Creative Memories pages. Never got into shaping the photos much, other than rounding some corners. All pages had to be pretty flat to fit. I created elements like my own paper pieced sports people, because really all we had was the cs page, paper, and stickers to work with.
After my CM start, I discovered brads and eyelets and for awhile every page had some (mainly because it took me awhile to find glue that would actually stick and stay stuck. For the most part I now scrap for 12x12 ring binders, and mostly 12x12 pages, varying in style from quick "flat" pages starting with cs and then layering pp matts, to more artsy "fat" pages with a bit of mixed media and thicker embellies piled on.
Most of my pages have at least 3 photos, but since I tend to tell stories in two page spreads, I will often have one page with a feature photo--sometimes in 5x7--and the facing page with lots of pics.
But I do like to play with other formats and styles. Have used smashbooks for travel mini albums. They work great for just slapping in the tickets and other ephemera while on the go. Have done a little art journaling, but still not comfortable with not knowing how a technique will turn out. I tend to do it on separate pages and only save the ones I like. Other than a couple of on line photo books, I have never done digi scrapping. Love playing with paper.
Most of the time I have a list of pages I hope to create with the box of photos on my desk, but I go through 'grab & go' stages where I grab the first photo or product I see and then do something with it. Helps to have challenges like LOAD to get me going. I find that frees up my right brain when the left side has been too bossy.

I definitely veered away from traditional layouts about 2 years ago and went solely to pocket page scrapbooking. This year I've been using the PL app to document 2016, and I'm really loving it. I still enjoy making theme and vacation albums but nothing bigger than 8x8.

I'm still a traditional scrapbooker - I haven't gotten into PL or smash books or art journals etc...
I started off scraping 8.5x11" fourteen years ago and that's still my scrapbook of choice. I do like 8x8 for smaller projects though although I find squares trickier to work with than rectangles

I'm still a traditional scrapbooker doing 12x12 layouts. But, my style has changed a lot. I think it's much more sophisticated now. I have a better sense of design.
I do slip in some pocket pages when I have a lot of photos that I want to include.

Still primarily a 12x12 double page scrapbooker, now I mix pocket pages with them. Just try to make sure the adjoining pocket page coordinates.
But I know what you mean about the library of various sizes and fads. I have all kinds of sizes on my bookshelf...paper bag albums...even albums made from tracing flip flops, but never really did chipboard. Do have a collection of empty chipboard albums at the ready, though
Did do Smash for a couple of years, but have let that slide. Have last year's on my desk as a 'need to get to it'. Will not pick up a Planner, no, I will not.
also have a Bible that I was journalling in...but have not touched it since mid Feb...another 'need to get to it'. siiiiiigh

For me personally, three-ring binder albums were literally the revival of my scrapbooking hobby. I started out in strap-hinge albums (by CM) and hated how limiting they were because I didn't like scrapping chronologically, so I quit for years until I discovered that 3-ring binder albums were out there. Now I can make the pages I want when I want, and arrange them however I want in the albums!! I never got into making mini-albums, either... I had a few half-made ones from classes I took at Expos over the years but I finally decided I was never going to finish any of them or use them so I got rid of them all. (and I didn't feel guilty about it, either!) I will very occasionally use memorabilia (like concert tickets, maps, etc.) on my 'traditional' SB pages, but to me, my art journaling and scrapbooking hobbies are very separate and distinct activities that don't cross over at all. I would never put a 'real' photograph onto one of my art journal pages and I don't do any art-journaling style details on my scrapbook pages.

I have pretty much always done 12x12 layouts in binder style albums. I do add in the occasional pocket page. I have done a few mini albums but they are not really in my comfort zone. I started chronologically but now do whatever layout I want regardless of when the pics were taken. I mostly do event pages, but I've been thinking about trying project life to do a better job documenting my daily life.

I do scrap some 12x12 albums that were started 12x12 and are ongoing, but anything new I start and almost all of my scrapbooks are 8.5x11. I did 12x12 for about 5 years and they took up so much room I had to switch back.
I have done the occasional smaller scrapbook generally as a gift for someone. I really like 8x8 and 9x9, but again, 8.5x11 is what I really like to use because it is so standard.
I am a totally traditional theme scrapbooker. I love pattern paper that matches the theme of my photos.

I'm a traditional 12x12 scrapper too for the most part but I have done a few digital books, some smaller format traditional books and some mini books. My style has changed but the formats I use really haven't. I don't think I could ever really embrace PL type pocket scrapping other than to just have a space for any extra, unscrapped photos that I don't want to stick in a box. I would like to try some different kinds of mixed media collage projects such as wall hangings or canvases, but that's not really scrapbooking and I wouldn't want to include photos on them.
On a somewhat related note, I have done all kinds of handmade blank books and bookbinding over the years and that's fun too. My problem is that once I have all those cute little books made I never want to actually use them for anything!

I'm another traditional scrapper. I do mostly 12x12 and pocket pages. I'm working on a PL album for this year since I don't really scrap the every day, I really only vacations and Christmas. My Christmas albums are always a smaller format, the last couple of years have been 6x8(ish).
I also digi scrap. I haven't printed any of my layouts out yet but intend to do them in 8x8 when (if!) I do.

I've done a mix of things, but mostly in the past it's been A4 / 8 1/2 x 11 CM albums of big vacations with multi-photo layouts. Then 3 years ago I did a 12x12 PL album for my niece's 1st year. That got me interested in pocket pages so I did 2 years of PL for myself, but in 6x8 albums. I got sick of that last year since my day to day life is pretty repetitive so this year I'm doing 9x12 and a mix of layouts and pocket pages. I'm mostly using a thematic approach with Ali Edwards' Story Kits and scrapping a mix of current and older photos.
I'm also scrapping a whole range of photos from European life/travels in the 90s and am doing those with layouts. I still have a few old CM albums, so that's what they're going in. I don't like 12x12 because I don't have anywhere to store such large albums. 9x12 or the old CM ones fit on an ordinary bookshelf.

I'm pretty traditional. I started out doing 12x12s, but then moved to 9x9s and love that size. But of course MM and CTMH have both discontinued their 9x9 albums. But I do have some in my stash. I do have an 8 1/2 x 11 album that I'm going to do as a PL for my puppy. I thought with my limited time that would be a quicker and easier way to document his training and activities. With 2-3 training classes each week you would think I'd have more pictures of him, but since I'm the behind the camera person and his trainer the 8 1/2 x 11 PL format will be perfect for my fewer pictures For the past few years I have not done much scrapbooking at all, I've mostly been making cards. Either for myself for holidays and birthdays or birthday and thank you cards for others (charities).

I also do 12x12 with a few pocket pages here and there. I make an album for each school year of my kids, although it includes all aspects of their life (not just school). They tend to refer to events by what grade they were in, so that's why I did it that way. I also do a 12x12 album for each year of DS's varsity sports. I have pictures from each game and include the newspaper articles from that game. Articles are color copied on to card stock. I scraplifted this design by Laura Vegas: Sports AlbumI am working on 6x8 albums of our trip to the Dominican Republic for each of my kids. I should probably finish those!

If i were to do a scrapbook page tonight it would be circa 2005 and lots of K&CO paper and embellishments. Old fashioned and yet it will always be me. I can do trendy and I have. My layout looks great, it's just not honest to myself. I am frilly, girly, floraly and pastels. I just don't feel like it's me if I scrap like the designers do now. It's hard to explain. I won't know when I am done a layout. With older product I can use it liberally and enjoy it more than newer stuff. I am afraid to use the new stuff!

My friend found the We R Memory Keeper albums on sale for less than $3 each on their website several summers ago. I bought 25 of them. I'll be scrapping 12 x 12's for a long time.

I love this question. I was thinking about this very same topic the other day. KatieAnna, I am doing the same kind of scrapbooks that you are doing.
I don't traditional scrap any more either. I love Smash books, Project Life, Art Journaling & planners. I am doing a lot of hybrid. Most of my scrapbooking is Smash Books & Project Life together. Instead of buying books I am binding my own books.

I am still basically a traditional 12 x 12 in a binder 2 page layout scrapper. I include PL if I have a lot of photos of the same event, game, celebration. Depending on what I am scrapping, I have been known to scrap 6 to 8 pages then follow with PL or mix PL in-between the 6 to 8 pages. I also do digital scrapping and mix that in. I also do mini albums and themed albums such as an entire album devoted to a special event (Grand Canyon vacation).
I have never tried a smash book or planner.

I just received a stack of paper from Scrap Your Trip and can't wait to use it for those photos. I'm doing it 8.5x11 though and I see it will take AT LEAST 2 3 ring binders (hopefully not more). Would love to see some of your pages if you post them!

I'm a 12x12 scrapper and I use the ring albums. I like to make really "busy" pages--sometimes it's busy with lots of photos, and other times it's embellishments of one kind or another. I've definitely changed in style since I first started scrapping in 2000, but I think my style pretty much cemented itself by 2007 or so. Not that my pages look "dated" or anything. At least not to me.

I did 8.5x11 from 1995 to about 2012 exclusively. Then I decided to do the family album in 12x12 using divided sheet protectors, journal cards, and minimal embellishments.
I have separate albums in 8.5x11 size for holidays and birthdays. I put those albums in my living room depending on the time of the year. They are the ones I like to embellish more.

My first few years of scrapping were with CM products. A lot has changed since then. I did love those small blue cutters. They lasted forever- as well as the corner punch. I still have mine (and use it) from 2001.

I first tried scrapping all the way back in 1996 (went to a Creative Memories party)
I did 8.5x11 the first 5 years or so, but after my son was born in 2001 I switched to 12x12.
I did try my hand at a couple mini albums, 8x8, 6x6, but ended up disasembling them, just was not my thing.
I've never been into the artsy side, but really just the memory keeping side with a little creativity thrown in.
I have done pocket page ones as well, though those were to give away to people.
Last year I switched to digital and got rid of all the paper products.

I started in the reverse order really I guess. I was always cutting and pasting and journaling and adding bits and pieces to my diaries and art albums and this started in primary school and went all the way through high school. When a friend showed me her scrapbook that she was working on it was a full spin out and a light bulb moment of actually being able to put a name to what I had been doing for years. Over the years I have tried all the sizes and different mediums but I really I just love traditional 12x12 paper scrapbooking and am happy just plodding along at my own pace with my matchy matchy papers and stcikers .

Ive done 8.5x11 but am now back to my 12x12s, We R Memory Keeper albums. I havent started my album for 2016 yet (eek!!) and Im thinking about doing more pocket pages than I normally do. I want to keep it flat and clean, maybe less embellishments than Im used to even though I have a ton to use up! I have a lot of unused Gossamer Blue Kits to use up and they are for normal 12x12s but I think I can cut them down to make them PL style
