linkThis crossed my desk this am, and I couldn't try it because I have too much storage left on my iPhone, but people in the comments section had success with it.

Pretty cool idea. I'm at 1.1 GB and tired of having to download photos/videos weekly to make space. I'd try it but I'm nervous about that comment where someone mentioned being charged.

I saw this on FB and investigated it. And I ended up trying it. It worked and I had no adverse effects. I did it with the LOTR movie. I can't remember now exactly how much space it freed up, but I repeated it three times before it wouldn't give me any more.
I think whether you could possibly get charged depends on you. One factor is how you have your purchase settings configured on i-Tunes. Mine still asks me to confirm purchases so it couldn't happen. The other factor is that you should be monitoring how much space you have freed up with each attempt. Don't try it again of you've freed up enough space to actually purchase it.

Well - it seems to have the opposite effect for me!
I've done it twice - and I went from 275mb available, to 272, and now it is 270.
Super weird.

Didn't work for me. Cut my already paltry 16mb down to less than 13, so I won't be trying it again. I really need a new phone!

For those of you that it worked for, do you have a newer iphone? And for those that it didn't work, do you have an older iphone?
Mine is filled to the brim and is as old as dirt (Apple will be calling soon to see if they can put it in their museum) and I wonder if it would work for my phone.

I saw this on FB a couple weeks ago and tried it and had the same thing happen as you. I really wish I could delete some of the apps that came with the phone that I never ever even open instead of having to dump stuff that I use or photos I'd like to keep a copy of on my phone. Frustrating.

I finally tried this today (I remembered when my dd was griping about not having space to download something). I went from 1.2g to 1.3 to 2.7. When I tried it again it prompted to authorize the rental so I left.
