Has anyone used another bedroom in their house and used the master for something else? I ask because our two other bedrooms are really small. One is used for our business and it is so cramped. I work in there during the day and with the dogs hanging out and the lack of space makes it feel claustrophobic. My husband suggested we make one of the other bedrooms ours to sleep in and turn our master into the office. It makes sense but I don't know if I want to do that.
Anyone use your master bedroom for something else?

My master bedroom is my sewing studio. It has lots of natural light and is big. The other bedroom is smaller and darker.
I need natural light during the day time to do my sewing /quilting, so this works for me.

Not me personally, but when I was growing up, my piano teacher gave the master bedroom to their 3 oldest boys. They took a smaller bedroom and their 2 littlest boys shared the third bedroom.

That would be fine for the two of you to use it for that. If you ever sell the house I wouldn't show it that way.

Growing up my sister and I shared the master bedroom. Once she moved out my mom made it into a den and I moved to a smaller bedroom. I still slept in there a lot on the sleeper coach because our home didn't have central air and there was a window unit in that room.

We definitely have. For a while, we put 3 children in the master and took a smaller room to be closer to the youngest, who needed a lot of attention through the night. We've used the master suite as a guest area when we had long-stay relatives, we've had it be my crafting space, and now we're switching it up and making that space my DH's office and puttering room. Use your rooms so they work for you. Sounds like you spend a lot of time in a cramped and inadequate space which would be fine for sleeping hours. I'd definitely make the switch.

My cousin has her two daughters sharing the master bedroom.
A friend's dad turned the master into his art studio.

Our "master" bedroom is 10 ft x 12 ft. Our smaller bedroom is 9 ft x 10 ft. We use the big room for my husband's business office and sleep in the small darker room at the back of the house. Most master bedrooms are ridiculously huge these days and mostly wasted (our house was built when life was a little different, 95 years ago). Our house gives all the biggest spaces to public, shared rooms where we spend our waking hours, and keeps the private sleeping spaces small and cozy. Makes much more sense to me. If you're spending most of your day in the office it should be a space where you feel comfortable. Do it! You might even find you sleep better in the smaller room.

yes, as a young family of 4 in a 2 bedroom rental...kids with crib/toddler bed/ toys were in the 'Master' while dh and I took the smaller. We figured since we only slept there, it made the most sense.

Our master bedroom is just a little larger than the two rooms my boys sleep in. We have three large bedrooms and two smaller bedrooms that are the office and scrap room. If your husband thinks it would work, go for it.

Go for it. You should use your house the way that works for you, not following some mandate that the largest room is only for use as your bedroom.

Not the same thing, since I was single. But I did that.
It just made so much more sense to use larger space for my office, have the great Windows and view. It wasn't a house with crazy big master bath, so it didn't seem too odd.

By the way - I turned half of my living room that we never use into my scrapbook happy place. If we decide to sell, I'll stage it back into a traditional living room.

Because we added on to our house we have the original master and a guest room downstairs in addition to a new master bedroom and 2 kids rooms upstairs.
When we moved in after the addition my BIL moved in with us. We offered him the original master suite but he took the guest room and we used the master for an office for the 3 of us.
After he moved out we kept it that way as it made the most sense. I can see into the back yard easily so that I can keep an eye on the kids while working or crafting.

Our SIL and her DH let their 13 yo daughter have the first floor master and they took a smaller room upstairs. We thought, "Whaa?" Part of keeping kids honest in their teen years is having to walk past mom and dad's room when you're sneaking in or out at night!

If we ever sell we will definitely stage it as a master. Having a master suite on the first floor is rare in my neighborhood (besides the few one stories of course) and would be a big advantage when selling.
We could probably get away with staging the guest room as an office instead of a bedroom.

My 2 sisters and I had the master when we lived in Hawaii for 6 years. Dad was military so he wasn't around much. My 2 brothers shared another room and mom took one. We still had a huge lanai too.

Our house kind of has two master bedrooms. The largest one we took but it has a bathroom across the hall. The "grandmother" unit Joe turned into his business office, and now just his office.

The house we lived in before this one, the master bedroom was used as an office/den/craft room. We spent most evenings and weekends that we were home in that room. It had really great light with big windows. Our current master bedroom doesn't have as many windows and I miss all that natural light!

When we first moved into our house we used the largest bedroom with ano attached master bath as our Master but it was just too big. The current arrangement has it as aneeded office/craftroom. My husband works from home so this isn't quite working for me since I can't really be running the sewing machine while he's on the phone! I'm kind of considering turning it into a family bedroom for all 4 of us.

My house was built in 1922, and the room listed as the Master is the biggest bedroom, but not by much. It is the only bedroom on the main floor. But it has a small closet. But I didn't want a small closet, so I took an upstairs bedroom as mine. It has an attached attic space that is mostly finished off, that I'm planning on making my fabulous walk-in closet. I've only been here 6 months, so I haven't had a chance to get it done yet. I let my DD take the master bedroom as hers...which I like because it's next to the living room. So when she's hanging out in her room all the time (she's 14), I feel like she's by us all and not hiding on a different floor.

Our formal dining room is our family room. I didn't want to waste the space for a dining room that we would only use a few times a year.
