I'm thinking of getting a small Cricket Loom - 15". I've heard positive things about them and that they are a good starter loom. If you have one, or have used one, please tell me about your experiences with it. The good and the bad both!

I have a Martha Stewart Loom and I LOVE IT. I love the versatility! I can tell you looming is so fun and you can make a ton of stuff.
Good Luck!

I've used a cricket during a class, have a 15" Schacht Flip and a 24" Ashford rigid heddle loom and am learning. The cricket is a bit lighter then the flip. I am learning, but started with the Ashford and ended up getting the flip because it folds up and I needed something portable to bring on a month long business trip or use for classes at the LYS.
Schacht is a well known brand and the cricket seems to be popular.
What are you thinking about making?
If you havn't seen saori weaving, check out videos and projects by the Saori Weaving group on Ravelry. All the colors and textures--it looks like it would be fun.

I think I will probably stick to scarves, dishcloths and placemats. Lion Brand .com has the 15" Cricket set on sale for $156 - it was $168 with shipping - a GREAT price. I'd love a flip, but that isn't on sale anywhere and a bit more expensive. I decided that I would start with the Cricket and then upgrade to something bigger if I really like it. I enrolled in a beginning rigid heddle weaving class on Craftsy and the teacher is a crocheter who got into weaving to help use up her stash - that would be me too. I have a TON of yarn that I will never knit or crochet all of, but I think that I can put a lot of it to use weaving.

That is a great price! You will definitely use up a lot of yarn.
