We were reminded the other day that even a LINE needs a companion. A fellow student was telling us about a different class she had taken with Christy Riopel--one of the Creative Scrapbooker gals--who said never worry about drawing a freehand border around a photo or a page. She just says "Draw the line. Don't worry if it's straight. Because you are going to draw another line. And every line needs a drunken partner!"
Do you scrap alone or with a friend? I am lucky enough to have a choice. I often scrap at home with all my goodies within a couple of steps, and no packing to do. But a few times a year I pack it up and head out to a crop for a few days of scrapping with others. And justjac and I sometimes have our own little playdates when we scrap together. Here is a photo of us at the art journaling class last weekend.
Jac & me by Gramma Dee, on Flickr
Do you scrap one page at a time? Or does each page have a companion page? I usually look at facing pages as a unit, and even if I am scrapping about a different event, I tend to use colors that work together with the companion page.
Are there certain colours or types of embellishments you always seem to use together? Dyan Reavely kept reminding us all weekend that we needed to keep "warm" colors together and "cool" colors together. In this album I am working on, for my 3 yr old dgs, I am using lots of navy blue, brown, and kraft, with some pops of brighter colours depending on the specific topic.
Hoping you have a little time this Thursday to play--or at least THINK about playing! And thinking about the people you like to play WITH! One of the challenges is to do a page about your craft and I hope when you do that you include your crafty friends on the page as well!

I'm a lone scrapper. I don't have any real life scrapping friends and I think I work better in my own space with all my supplies because I like to have all my options when I'm creating.
I'm guilty of scrapping multiple pages at the same time that don't go together and look nothing alike. Of the three layouts on my desk now I have one that is grey and yellow, one that is pink and cream, and one that is a vintage looking dirty cream and gold.

I technically scrap alone, but I never feel alone when I'm able to log onto refupeas.
My pages are anything goes! I never worry about colors matching or even complementing each other in most of my albums. The only albums that match are my December Daily albums, where I pick a color scheme and stick with it.

my scrapping companion was my best friend/former roommate - she got me hooked back in 2002 - but she moved away 6 years ago and I haven't found anyone else. I tend to scrap alone, at home. I used to enjoy crops but there aren't any here anymore.
Page-wise - if I'm doing a 2-page layout, then I use the same colour scheme across both pages but for 1-page layouts, I don't worry about the facing page beyond making sure that I HAVE a facing page so there isn't gap in the album.

I used to be a lone scrapper, but since having DS I've looked for ways to get out of the house to scrap. I needed the social time around like-minded people! I joined a Meetup group here and have met some amazing ladies, several of whom have become close friends. I crop with the Meetup group once a month and my little group of friends from the group also try to get together here and there outside of the group to scrap too. One of the girls in our group is single now and her kids are grown. She is amazing and hosts us all! No hubbies or kids to kick out of our houses. We love her for that! We also try to attend big crops once or twice a year. In April we went to one and we're all heading to Scrapbook Expo in July in Atlanta As for companion pages, I don't plan for them to coordinate unless it's a double page spread. I scrap out of order and that would be too hard to keep up with. The only time I plan what will be on the opposite page is if I'm using a pocket page. I do try to go ahead and scrap the other side so that I don't end up with empty pockets on the other side.

I scrap at crops but I sit by myself by choice unless my number one scrappy friend is with me. How we met was a little story in Memory Makers back in the day. We were going to the same crops and eventually started sitting together. I found out she was from the same area where I went to graduate school. She was scrapping some pictures of her church at home and I said it reminded me of the church where I did a community outreach in college. I told her the name and she said, "That's this church! My mother headed up that outreach program!" Turns out her mom was my supervisor almost 20 years earlier..
We go to conventions, getaways and local crops together for the past 15 years.
I do lots of single pages and I often do scrap 2 pages at a time but that is because I am doing one page for one son and a similar page for my other son. They usually vary in several ways, but I scrap them simultaneously. I definitely am not a scrapper who needs a matching page or has to scrap 2 pages. That is not me a million times over.

I mostly scrap alone at home. I do have two scrappy friends and we try to get together once every month or so. We also enjoy doing 3 day crops at our LSS. One is moving to a city 2.5 hours away so I'll miss her, but her family is here so she'll be back for visits. She's only 25 so it's fun to have a young perspective.

Both of my nieces scrapbook, but one lives 10 hours away and the other 24 hours away. My dd, 10, scrapbooks as well. Her and I will have craft days and either scrapbook or art journal which are a lot of fun. We mainly craft separately though as our free time may be different. I've never really liked crops as I like having access to all of my stuff.
Facing album pages -- since I scrap out of order, I would never get anything done if I worried about them matching. Since it also might be a pocket page or a 8.5x11 page, I don't worry about it. I like the difference. If I'm doing a double page layout or a single layout and a pocket page for extra photos or stories, then I'll coordinate the items.

I mostly scrap alone but have been making a conscious effort in the past two years to GET OUT and scrap. I found a group a few years back that was going strong for a year or so but then we all go very busy and it sort of fell apart. I just put myself out there again a few weekends again, going to a crop ALONE without knowing a SOUL (this is a big deal!) and it was not a disaster! I got tons done and made a few new scrappy friends. Almost all my scrappy friends are online and spread all over but I am lucky to have two or three here locally. I have several big crops coming up this year so WOOHOOO!
As for pages, I am mostly a one pager these days unless I am doing a Scrapbook Generation sketch. The one pages don't have to match at all. The 2 page spreads yes they must match. I am more in the camp of "get it in the album" scrapper. My albums are LOOSELY by year. One day, when the kids are grown and gone, I will sit and reorganize them by month/year. Now I just make sure to at least get the YEAR on the page somewhere. I know it drives others nuts but it is what makes me happy!

Mostly alone in my scrap room. But do go to crops 2 to 3 times per year. Expo and a couple of crop camps. We have a local group, but do not meet monthly as we once had. I do enjoy scrapping as a group, but also love holing up in my cave with a couple of movies or cd's
Companion pages must coordinate. They are not necessarily 2 page layouts, but I use the same paper line for those that face one another. A big reason why I tend to scrap chronologically.

I'm a lone wolf scrapper, too. I know one lady who scrapbooks but we've never gotten together to scrap. I not good at holding a conversation and scrapping at the same time. I tend to be very focused on what I'm scrapping and tune other things out when I scrap so I'd imagine I wouldn't be good company. I'm an introvert so I like that alone time.
Unless it's a two page layout I actually don't want facing pages to match at all. I want it to be obvious that I've scrapped two different events or sets of pictures. To me it might be confusing if they match but tell different stories.
Well, I'm full blown sick today. I'm not sure if I'll get around to scrapping today. I have a set of pictures to work on (DD at age 5 getting dolled up by Girly Girl), background paper, and Thickers. I haven't picked paper or embellishments yet, though. Now that my girls are older I don't buy as much froo froo little girl stuff so it's been a challenge to go back and scrap older pictures. I'll have to look and see what my pink options are.

hope you feel better soon, Elsabelle ! linda , keep up the scrappy mojo. I dropped 150 potatoes into holes dh dug. And we didn't kill each other: guess that counts as a companion activity! In 2 months we will be eating "new" potatoes!

Thank you, grammadee. I wish I had the space for a garden. I'd love to eat my own homegrown potatoes. And tomatoes! I love a garden fresh tomato! Do you grow those, too?

Yes we grow tomatoes too, but we don't put them out into the garden until June. The don't ripen until late August or early September.

Thanks, linda ! And look at this: on BoBunny's blog today, they show how you can for projects using--you guessed it--a bunch of lines together. freehand flowers I think they have these drawn on some of their papers, (I was focusing on the drunken lines) but I could see myself using sprays or paints to color the background and then drawing the flowers on top.

I scrapped 13 and 14 today. 13 was a two page layout of DD2 at Girly Girl. It took forever! 14 was about how she would nap on the couch but not in her room. That was a single page layout with one picture and start to finish it took me about 30 minutes. I wish they were all that fast. On to 15!

I'm wondering how many Linda has finished. I think she's keeping track of how many layouts per day instead of how many layouts total like me. I think she's scrapped a ton of layouts, too.

Here is my double page layout for day 5 of LOAD. I am lucky in my scrappy companions. I have grammadee to crop with a few times a year. I also have a friend from high school that has a crafty group that I join when I can.
