I am TWO PAGES away from finishing my vacation/cruise album!! woo hoo! I LOVE how it's turned out - I used navy, aquas, hot pink, yellows, and kraft, with anchors, cameras and compass roses to tie the whole thing together. I'm down to literally the last two pictures/pages, and now I know why I kept pushing them aside. They are two 8x10s, of us dressed up on formal night. The background is solid black. we are all wearing black, gray, and a cranberry red. I can't for the life of me find any combination of my album colors that look decent with these pictures! I did do a two page layout before I came up with the color scheme, its mainly orange and aqua, and....I hate it. it sticks out like a sore thumb and I want to change it so it feels like it belongs in this album. So I know if I abandon the color scheme I'll hate it, but crap!!! Why didn't I think ahead and dress accordingly? I have enough problem scrapping 8x10 pictures anyway, and then they just don't match. Ridiculous problem I know, but it really has me ticked off and frustrated. I'm SOOO close to being FINISHED and these two stupid pictures won't get off my desk, LOL!!! I do have quite a bit I want to journal about them, my teen age boys being so into "dressing up"for this night and how much our family has changed since the last family portraits....so I really want to include them. Hmmmm Maybe I'm finding my answer....maybe I should put them in my " just because I love the picture" album and not the vacation album..... What would yall do?

If it were mine, I would try using just the kraft and navy colors, with maybe a pop of yellow. Those shouldn't clash too badly with the colors in the photo? Good luck!

You're so close! I'd keep it simple. 8x10s take up so much space that you won't have much room anyway. I'd use kraft and navy. Those seem to be the most neutral and the least likely to cause too much color chaos on the layouts. Maybe going to Pinterest to look for inspiration on scrapping 8x10 pictures will help you get them done.

Congrats on almost finishing the album! I am thinking that aqua would be a great background colour. It will help the cranberry pop, Then use a grey matt to contrast with the black photo background. Maybe a really skinny cranberry matt on the outside of the grey. You can add some cranberry and aqua flowers in a cluster to tie the photo and the background together.
Have you tried hot pink against the dress in the photo? Maybe slip in a hot pink flower to the cluster?
I would stay away from kraft on this page and play up the grey instead.
Good luck with this! Would love to see it when you are done!

oh man, such awesome ideas!!
I've tried the navy, but the background is a really saturated, BLACK black. My son's jackets blend in and you can't even see their shoulders. ( gotta love on board photo editing - we were on day 5 of a 7 day tropical cruise and in these photos, we look pale as can be! LOL!) I like the aqua/gray idea - I really do want to use the kraft backgroud, as 90% of the layouts in this book are on kraft. And, it so compliments our beautiful, pasty complexion, ha!
Thanks so much for giving me a new direction, ladies! I've never shared a layout online, but I may give it a shot if I ever get these done.

I'm a believer in - if I hate the layout, I just start over. I've only done it a very few times, but I am always happy I did. Good luck with finishing your project. I can't wait to see the final layout.

Here's my .02. Hope it makes sense. I'd do a generic cruise/vacation layout using the colours from the rest of the album and some generic cruise/vacation die-cuts, ephemera, journal cards etc. Mat the photos on grey paper. Then I'd cover them with a portion of the layout so the photos are hidden. You can mat the photos in such a way they look good using colours from the photo but, since they're "hidden" they won't clash. It also gives you another place to journal. To anyone doing a quick flip though it just looks like a nice finish page to the end of your book but if you open the flap (or whatever) you see the nice formal photos and journaling. ETA: Maybe on the "outer" page have a pic of all of you from earlier in the day...sandy sweaty etc at the beach then on the "inner" page the formal pic with you all cleaned up and your journaling.
