My oldest daughter is staying with us because she is getting married next weekend. After church we went to lunch as a family (dh, me, four kids, and son-in-law). We also invited a family friend because she is going through a divorce and her adult kids live out of state so she was alone. One daughter gave me a lovely selection of Soapwalla products, the other daughter and SIL gave me a beautiful bracelet, and my husband (along with the two younger kids) got me an excursion for six in an escape room! If we could possibly manage to do it with all of us, he will add the other two. After lunch we just had a quiet day at home and then oldest daughter and I ran a few errands. My dh made dinner and did the dishes. It has been a nice day.

We drove out to see dd perform this weekend which was a treat in itself! Well, except the actual drive there and back. We were able to have breakfast with dd before her matinee which was an unexpected treat because I know she would have and probably should have been sleeping.
On the way home, before we hit the completely stalled traffic, dh and I stopped at an outlet mall. He very patiently helped me find shoes. I don't like shoe shopping because I am hard to fit. I've been looking for new sneakers for a month now and he found a pair of Nikes very close to the pair that I've been wearing forever. Bought me 2 pairs! So happy to have new, comfortable sneakers! Also did very well with the clearance and bought a pair of sandals and a pair of winter hiking boots for a song. They are Merrells and were marked down to $15!

My day started with my middle daughter waking me up to go to brunch. She had bought me flowers. We met my oldest daughter and her SO for brunch, which was very nice. Then middle daughter and I went to see a movie Mother's Day then came home and I took a nap. Youngest daughter lives out of state and she sent me a nice text then called me this evening. The sisters had signed her name to the mother's day card (they both did, her name was signed twice.)
It was a very nice day.

Dh ordered my favorite chocolates. I ordered myself some yarn.
I joked and said I don't want to have to do anything and I want breakfast in bed. Dh said ok! I got breakfast in bed. I had lunch with my sister and mom which actually didn't go as bad as I thought it would. (Usually she makes a dig or talks about about someone) sister paid for lunch. Dh did the laundry that needed to be done, even put the sheets out on the clothesline! And he made dinner. The cards my boys picked out were actually sweet.
We met up with my parents and sister at an ice cream place and got a few pictures in. Not a bad day. Low key but yet I was treated well. I'm rather indifferent towards the holiday for no reason other than I'm indifferent towards most holidays. Maybe I was a Jehovah witness in another life.

If by special you mean last minute gifts bought at 11 pm from the local walmart, then yes. It would have been even more special if it wasn't something everyone is fully aware I already own and use in front of them daily.

DD was a sweetheart. She sent me flowers at work earlier in the week, brought me a latte at church, and surprised with a gorgeous pink Coach tote bag she scored at the outlet store - she works at their corporate office and used rewards and her discount.
DH gave me 2 Pandora charms. They are lovely, but that is what he gets me for every event. EVERY event.
DS managed to call me at 8:30 tonight.
All in all, an ok day. I didn't have to spend it with MIL this year.

Glad you enjoyed the weekend, minus the traffic I didn't see the review! Will have to look for it online. I saw the ballet on Friday night and again on Saturday afternoon. I admit we did not stay for the whole thing on Saturday as dd was done after Act 1. Leaving early gave us time to take her out for a meal before her evening performance. Went to Katzingers. I see why dd loves it. The food is like home. Will be back in early June. The trainees perform in the academy show (basically a recital).

I gave my DS heck tonight. He didn't take his kids to buy a gift their mother, his ex-wife. I told him he was raising unappreciative, self-centered children, and it is his responsibility to teach them better. It's sad, but I am closer to my former DIL than I am to my DS.

DD made me a very sweet card at school. DH tried to get the hanging baskets he always gets for the front of the house, but this year they were about $37 each--and we need SIX. So that wasn't going to happen, and honestly I would rather not spend that much on that knowing that in another couple weeks they will all be on clearance for $20 each. I told him about the Lego Dimensions game I bought for myself (LOL!) so I think he didn't feel as bad as he might have. I may or may not also steal a box of nice chocolates that he bought for one of his sales reps a couple months ago that he forgot about in his office! The person he got it for doesn't know he bought it and will never miss it so I might as well enjoy it.

My stepdaughter is in Turkey, but I got a nice message from her.
The best thing that happened today might be seen as kind of strange. Yesterday, I was out on the porch and a robin landed on the fence in front of me. I have always read that if a cardinal stops by, that it's a lost loved one, coming to say hello. I had the passing thought that I wished that robin was a cardinal, as I would have liked to say hello to my mom. Today, I was outside and a cardinal came and landed right on the tree in front of me. So beautiful.

Being that both my kids have autism and medical needs, there were no.meltdowns/tantrums today. And we enjoyed mini golf and played arcade games. So it was a good day

It was 95% a lovely day. Church was eventful because it was graduate recognition Sunday and eldest DD was recognized. We had a special breakfast before the service and the graduates marched in wearing their caps and gowns. After church and lots of pictures, we drove to little Arrow Rock, MO to the oldest operating restaurant in Missouri for their Mother's Day buffet.
I have to do a lot of traveling for work this summer and asked for a hard sided rolling carry on. Hubby found me one. Eldest DD made me a yarn bowl in ceramics--love it! DS got me a pretty necklace. I got a lovely painting done by youngest and a pair of pj's.
The only downside was eldest DD had a little pout fest over something out of our control, but she righted herself.

I got nothing.
But on the bright side, my husband's old trap and skeet coach was having a retirement party yesterday. My husband gave him a $100 retirement gift. Did I mention that the coach didn't even remember my husband's name.
Yep. Best. Mother's. Day. Ever.

jillonthehill sorry that sucks! It is tough for my 13 year old to get me a gift.. so this year she wanted to cook me a nice meal... (Which means me doing the shopping, the helping, the cleaning up and of course the paying) So I was honest. I said I appreciated what she was doing what I really would love is for her to clean my car! Which she got up early this morning and did! I think she finally understands its about doing something for me, and that I don't need her to spend money but taking the time to do something special is really appreciated. She made a picnic of her lunch, and we went about an hour away, saw Steel Magnolias, and had a picnic lunch.. all in a clean car! Yay! It was fabulous.

I got donuts and coffee in bed from my 16 year old. She was excited that this year she could drive herself to Dunkin Donuts for the donuts.
Then my dh, dd20, and dd16 took me to the beach for the afternoon. They made chicken salad, packed some fruit, chips and drinks; a complete picnic on the beach. We flew the kites and napped in the shade of the umbrella. It was perfect.
Then we came home and dh made spaghetti for dinner.
Dh also got me flowers and a Chromecast for the bedroom. Dd20 and I are going for pedicures later this week. Her treat.
It wad a great day.

My dd will be home on leave come Thursday, so she sent me a text that she's bringing my gift. I did find a 6 foot tall Mylar balloon left at my front door from her dad...it was a very thoughtful gesture since it's my first Mother's Day without my dd.

I wasn't expecting anything today since I'm not a mom. But my dear friends who I am staying with are like family to mr. She got me a picture that says, "Life starts where your comfort zone ends." I thought it was super thoughtful. The biggest gift to me though was being able to spend time with my nieces and nephew. The youngest is 9 months and the cutest little baby ever. I sorted colors for a perler bead design with my nephew, made shakey socks for the older niece and took my youngest niece outside. I've never seen a baby love the outdoors as mu h as her. Mostly I am so grateful for my friends who are truly like my brother and sister in law I always wanted but never got as family. They are so kind to include me as an honorary aunt! I couldn't love those kids more if they were my own flesh and blood!

My hubby took me out for breakfast on Friday and then went to yard sales with me afterwords and on Saturday also. My oldest DD came over Saturday and made strawberry shortcakes and the grands spent the night. Later Sunday my youngest DD brought me a balloon and a small compartment like tray filled with Hershey mini candy bars and kisses with inspirational quotes, which made my day. After finding the fraud on our debit card, her gift uplifted my spirits so much!! She is the only one who really listens and knows what is special for me, the little things.

My DD made me belgium waffles with strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast. She also had my youngest (with special needs) make a fantastic card and gave me the new bath and body tote for mother's day. My oldest bought me a rose and an outdoor lounger I have been wanting. DH painted my bay window seat (finally) for my gift and planted flowers I have been wanted. Capped off by a lovely brunch and later watching game of thrones. Perfect day!

Got to go to Kohl's by myself to spend $50 Kohl's cash. Nobody pressuring me, nobody getting bored. Came home with several cute pairs of pants, a skort and a shirt. My oldest son got me a GC to Bed, Bath and Beyond (he's taken a great liking to being able to purchase gifts with his own hard earned money). Had my parents over to our house and my mom was having a good day (strokes, aphasia etc) and my husband cooked us a really great meal. My day ended with my youngest son sitting at the computer with me looking through his baby pictures. I think he and I both really enjoyed it. We had a bonding moment which for a 13 year old boy is saying a lot :-) It was a very nice day though I must admit I was a bit sad not to get a card from anyone. My mom was always great about that but she can't do that kind of stuff anymore.

I had a long day day at church. My class, 3-5 year olds, was horrible. I had a hellacious headache by the time I got home. First thing dh asked when I got home was what's for lunch. I announced that since it was Mother's Day I was not going to cook food, buy food or pay for food. They needed to get creative. Dd 12 cooked lunch all by herself. Pasta with sauce and green beans. I was reclining in bed when dd asked me how to use the can opener. I told her to ask her dad. Other than that she knew exactly what to do. Pasta was perfectly al dente. Sometimes you just have to be a hard ass and ask for what you want.
