I'm digging into my first cantaloupe of the summer, and I peppered it up. I don't always do that, but it's really good. I think I got it from my dad--I remember him salting and peppering his cantaloupe (or muskmelon, as he called it.) Just wondering how common it is. No but I do salt it

I don't do anything to my fruit...no pepper, no salt, no sugar. I just think they're awesome on their own.

Never heard of it.
I'm a fruit purist. I love fruit as is, not caramelized, dipped in chocolate or manipulated in any way. I also hate fruit flavored items that aren't real fruit.

Yes, to sugar on tomatoes when I was a kid. We did the same as kids... seems weird to me now. I don't eat cantaloupe... I can't even be around it. The smell makes me nauseous. Even with the skin on, yuck. However, I do like salt on my watermelon.

I'm not a cantaloupe eater. However, as an avid mango eater, I do put salt, lemon, and jalapeños on non-ripe mangoes. (Or mangos?)

I sometimes put salt on my cantaloupe, but never pepper. I'm allergic to pepper.

When I was about 18 I thought salting watermelon was the dumbest thing I had ever heard and why would anyone do that.
Then I turned about age 25 and OMG I love salted watermelon. I love, love it. I wish I had bought some today in fact.

The idea has never crossed my mind but I see that a number of you enjoy it ... go on with your bad selves The closest I come to this is putting salt and pepper on my tomato slices ...

Yes pepper cantaloupe and salt watermelons. Exactly what my dad did! I don't do either, though.

No I don't pepper my canteloupe, I prefer it plain and sweet. I have seen other people do it, especially when served with prosciutto.

Mom always put pepper on mellons. Dad added salt sometimes, too. We never did sugar on tomatoes, though. Just slice, season, and enjoy!

Watermelon is naked. Cantaloupe is salted. I have one for tomorrow's dinner, so I will try it with pepper.

No. I've heard of the salt & watermelon, but never pepper & cantelope.
Growing up an older friend of my mother's used to make a watermelon salad, with cut up watermelon, some sort of vinaigrette dressing and onion. Sounds awful but once I tasted it I really liked it. She passed away many years ago so I can't ask her about it, but I never seen anyone else make it like that.

I like fruit with Tajin and some lime. Tajin is made of Mexican chilies, salt and some kind of limey (for lack of a scientific word) extract. This. On cantaloupe, watermelon, cucumbers, pineapple, and mango, all mixed together we call it a fruit pico de gallo. And a splash of lime to it as well!
