I know most of the spoiler sites say F2 but a very reliable source, who has predicted some doozies, is still saying F3. It'll be interesting to see if he is right. I've never known him to be wrong.

This purely speculation, but given the debate about a final 2 or 3 and the tease from Jeff in the Dalton Ross Q&A:
It’s a very exciting finish. The drama is definitely not over. There will be more surprises, another Survivor first, tears, and a very fulfilling final Tribal Council. This should be a really good conclusion to what fans are telling me has been a really entertaining season.
My theory is that they get down to a final 2 and then give the jury the option of adding one of their own to the final tribal, so it goes back to being a final 3. How often has Jeff asked the jury at the reunion if the last person booted to the jury was in the finale, would that person have won?
The pressure would really be on the other 2 finalists to convince the jury they are more deserving of the win than the person sent back.

Whatever they did in the final/jury, it doesn't sound like it was that successful, because they didn't do it again for the next one...remember this season was filmed BEFORE the last one we already saw.
If something new and great was done at the end, they would have done it again...but we already know they didn't.
Personally, I hate the idea if jury tampering! Survivor works because they leave the main bits of it alone and we watch because we like the same old format - "don't fix what isn't broken"

I didn't realize this one was filmed before last season's. Did they give a reason why the other season was shown first? Never a good clear reason that I saw. Although it was confirmed several times last season that it was the second one filmed for the year and the first one filmed would be shown later. From what I recall there was some waffling about the previous one being such a good season and the fans would like it so they decided to show it first. I made me think that this one was going to be a real dud...but it isn't that bad (we've had worse). One guess could be that next season is predicted to be returning players, so had they played the seasons in the filming order than we would have had this one first, then two seasons of returning players...maybe they didn't think that would work. So all of these people we are watching now actually played their game close to 12 months ago. That's got to suck for the final 2 or 3 to have to wait that long for the result. Plus if any of them are playing in the next season...then they won't be playing back to back like some have done with only days or weeks in between, they will have had a full year.

I wonder if they reversed the order of the last two seasons because of the evacuations and legalities associated with them? To make sure that all the players came out healthy and recovered? Caleb's evacuation was a pretty big emergency and Joe got pulled right at the end. I would think that they would want any lawsuits or legal issues buttoned up before the episode aired. By his own admission, Caleb didn't remember much about his collapse until he saw it on the air.

They aired the seasons out of order because of the way they did the "Second Chance" season last year. While this current season was filming, they were airing the season of Shirin and the big bullies. Near the end of that season's episodes, they had us vote for returning players, and the big thing was that they wouldn't know until the end of the finale if they were going or not. So the returning players went straight from the finale audience and got on a bus to start filming Second Chance, which they filmed over the summer. Viewers were expecting to see them in the fall. It wouldn't have made sense to viewers to air a different season first, even though it was filmed first. They would lose all of the momentum and perceived continuity of the returning players leaving right from the audience like that and going straight into filming. We weren't invested in Kaoh Rong and didn't know the players, so it wouldn't matter to viewers if we saw them in the fall or the spring. We were very invested in the outcome of the returning players season because we had just voted them in and watched them get on a bus to go play the game.
Sorry that's such a convoluted explanation. It's past my bedtime.

Could've been some sort of legal issue, or might have been ratings too, I know it rated really well and Dalton said has it in his top seasons of all time. But I never saw a proper explanation other than Jeff saying basically "we decided to show you this one first", Maybe something else when come out once this season has wrapped up and the contestants are free to talk about what happened during & after the game.

They would lose all of the momentum and perceived continuity of the returning players leaving right from the audience like that and going straight into filming. That makes sense. Although I think that most Survivor fans know how the filming works so it seems confusing to switch the seasons around, I guess for those people who just watch and don't know much else about the show, it makes the most sense to see them leave and then be back in the next season to air. I didn't think of it that way. I just thought everyone knew by now that for reality TV from the start of actual filming, most of the shows don't hit our screens until about 3-6 months later.

Must have been extremely difficult to hold information close for over a year! I can't imagine filming the final tribal and having to wait all this time and a whole other season to know if I won!

It's past my bedtime. This is my understanding of why the Seasons aired out of the order in which they were filmed. Since Season 19, two Seasons have filmed back to back in the same location. The second one has always waited longer to find out who the winner is, so they just switched which Season is waiting longer this year to cash in on the momentum of the returning players. Usually the first Season filming has a 5 month wait to the finale and the second Season has varied from 7-11 months. This year the second Season that filmed was the first to air and got the 5 month delay, pushing the current Season to 12 months.
