I just moved into a house built in 1993. The tub faucet and shower door frame are shiny gold, probably original to the house, but the sink faucets are polished nickel and the cabinet hardware is oil rubbed bronze. I need to add towel bars, but I'm stumped as to which finish to go with. I'm leaning toward the polished nickel and maybe switch out the cabinet knobs to nickel also. I like the gold the least, but it's not worth it to me to switch that out right now. Going from 3 different finishes down to 2 would be an improvement. Thoughts?

I had the same situation in my bathroom. I would go with the polished nickel.

It just kills me when people do that but I'm particular like that Is this for you or for selling your house down the road? If it's you, go with what you prefer and your short term plans. What do you want to move towards? What is in the rest of your house? If you're asking what will look best with the gold since you won't be able to change it, I agree with the previous poster and say silver. Might even find some combo gold/silver hardware to bring it together more.

I like polished nickel. It is softer looking than chrome and doesn't show water marks the same way.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the polished nickel or the bronzed, just whichever you prefer. In our home I had gone nickel, but now in the condo I'm doing bronzed.
Anything will be better than the gold/brass (though "they" say it is coming back, I think "they" are nuts.)
