Keep in mind I'm Canadian
i was in a city I've never been to before yesterday, I drove to the Royal Canadian Legion. I knew my moms dad and brothers medals were donated there. There are no records kept at all. No way of knowing what, who, or anything. Pretty disheartening. I was getting ready to leave when another woman showed up. She had access to more stuff but not the info I wanted mentioned above.
But she did find for me in this huge file my moms dad and one brothers application to the legion, from 1956. Moms brother had been released from duty in 1955 after getting out of Korea, he had to have dragged his dad down to join together.
Now I have their military numbers, what they served in, rank, dates of discharge.
I was told I should be able to get more info from Ottawa with that. But they couldn't tell me exactly where to go. Or how to go about it.
Moms dad lied to get into the First World War according to family lore. He was way too young, and issues with name spelling and not knowing dates always had me stuck in the past. In fact the application to the legion also had one first name, then crossed off and a different spelling written in.
The application of said assorted medals from the first war for him. And the Korean Star for the brother. Can I find out what for?
Kind of neat I now have some info, but where do I go from here?

Try the militarymuseums.ca they are here in Calgary and then support then missing to see if they are there. Ask them if any have been donated by a local Legion. Try Legion.ca and find the local head Legion for the area to see if they can locate them. www.veterans.gc.ca/eng has links to medals etc. Try 1-866-522-2122 If you know of anyone on Ancestry.ca they might be able to search in the Service files. Also try Googling their names to see what comes up. Google: Canada War Medals

Do do you know where I could find their service records?

All I can hit is walls, he same ones I've hit for years. My best guess is that for the census he was single, overseas, and not counted in a household. However I solved a great mystery in not tracking my husbands family. Somehow the transcriber placed the last name as the mothers first name. I found all eight siblings today.
