My dd is leaving for her Sr. trip tomorrow to Disney and Universal Studios in Orlando. Their package includes a pass for the Disney part, but they have the option of purchasing an Express Pass at US when they get there. I have not been there in over 20 years, so I know nothing.
From the "crowd indicators" I found online, the crowds right now are only 5 out of 10. The Express Pass is $60 and is only good for one time per ride unless you get the more expensive multipass for $75 and is not good for all rides, such as the Harry Potter ones. Soooo....Worth it or not for next week?
It will be a "group" decision with her group of friends. I understand that if some get it and some don't (in her friend group of about eight) they will be separated and they want to all try and stay together as much as possible. (Although I can see them breaking down into smaller groups after they get going)
Anyone with experience in this care to chime in? I'm thinking of giving her "X" amount of money to spend (their meals are already taken care of) and if she wants to use half of it to buy the pass, then she will just have to budget the rest more carefully. I'll add that she has never been to a Disney, etc park ever before..so her first time.

I live here in Orlando...just up the road from US and my dh is an Uber driver...FWIW, this is our slow season. Park attendance is slow, Uber riders are slow. Snowbirds are on their way north so it's relatively slow around here right now.
It will start to pickup after Memorial Day.

I bought it for one day (we went 2 days) and most of the time it really wasn't worth it. If I wanted to ride twice, the lines were usually pretty short anyway for those rides, and for the really great rides, they usually wouldn't let you use the pass on that one. I was sort of "meh" about it. I probably wouldn't do it again. We had the most fun on those rides that let you use it, but still had super short lines anyway.

The a Express Pass at Universal is really nice, though not mandatory on an average attendance day. Even though the castle ride doesn't take it, it shortens lines other places to allow more time to wait in that line. Universal also has a lot of single rider lines if they are willing to wait in line together but be separated for the ride itself.

I am not sure where y'all are coming from, but I figure this PSA won't hurt: Send lots of sunscreen and a hat. It is hot and sunny (today's high was 89) and both will be needed for sure...
Tell your daughter to have fun!!

It may be too late to respond, but I don't think it will be worth it. The lines won't be long at most of the attractions and the pass is not good for the most popular rides.

The parks are too expensive without those passes. You honestly wait for one to two hours without an express pass and then you only ride a few rides during the day. We went in January and the crowds weren't bad, but if you didn't have the pass you still waited for quite a while. The pass is good for most of the rides. I think there were three or four that it didn't work on. We rode those rides before the park opened for most people so we didn't have to wait so long.

We were there a year ago and got our passes through the hotel and we didn't have a one time limit on them. We did the HP things first and then used the passes and we were done with both parks by mid-day. I think the system works much better than Disney's Fast Pass and yes, I think it's worth it if the crowds are above a 3 or a 4.

Welp...it ended up being a mute point because dd contracted food poisoning her second day there and ended up viewing the inside of a toilet for 2 days, missing the Universal Studios day. I feel so bad for her....this was her first trip to Disney, etc. and she missed out of half her days in the parks. Then she got to feeling a little better for the last day and it started pouring rain! DH and I are going to start putting money aside to take her back. Won't be as much fun with us as with all her friends though.
