I think it is true. Planted a pot with Lantana and SunPatiens this week to attract the hummingbirds. More to come, but it's raining and cold here in Ohio today.

This happy woman doesn't. I despise gardening in any form. But i agree with the thought that happy people Pursue activities they enjoy. I agree, dh does all our gardening and enjoys it. I don't like it at all. While he's out in the yard, I'm in my scrapbook room doing my happy activity

I ripped out all of our grass, flowers, and other water hogging plants in favor of cactus and succulents. I'm a drought happy woman.

I do feel happier when I do some gardening. I think that if you get outside in the sun and get your hands in the dirt, it can been very soothing. My yard is terraced and covered in tall shady trees, so it isn't great for planting things that are low to the ground and need light, but my back patio is sunny and is covered in containers -- some flowering plants, some succulents, and a bunch of herbs and berry bushes. My kids fight over who gets to water them .

I don't plant flowers, but hubby does. I always look forward to going to the nursery with him to pick them out. I love the color!

In this climate, happy women pay someone else to plant and maintain flowers.

With us, happy men plant flowers! My husband loves gardening and he grows flowers from seed in the basement to save money. We always get so many compliments on our gardens/yard. People think we have professional landscapers! This is us too! If it's green and I touch it, it dies so DH takes care of everything in our yard (and the houseplants as well). I do okay with keeping the kid, dogs and chickens alive and happy though! He's in competition with the neighbors as to who can have the nicest lawn but he has his work cut out for him. Our next door neighbor is the groundskeeper for a cemetery so he's got a distinct advantage!

Maybe that is why I am sad. I can no longer work in the yard since my back fusion. Something I miss and wasn't aware I would lose that ability. I'm fused to my hip and can't bend at the waist.

I like flowers but not at this point in my life. It's just one more thing to take care of and for my son t destroy. Not worth the effort. It's actually quite freeing to have less work to do.

I love flowers and have quite a few planted in my yard and in pots in our deck and porch. But, I hate gardening, so someone else does the planting. I do keep them alive after though...I am a happy waterer. :-)

"Happy Women Plant Flowers" - coming soon to a Cracker Barrel near you, painted on a cutsie plaque! As a happy woman who detests all types of gardening, I think it is a silly generalization. I think a better phrase would be that happy women are involved in a hobby or project that they love.

I tend to agree because gardening is one of my greatest pleasures. After a long day at school, I will head to the flower beds before I go into the house. I love getting dirty and tired in the garden.

I hate planting flowers and doing yard work. I don't like the feel of my hands in the dirt either. But I still plant flowers because I want my house to look nice. So I do what I can to make it look as nice as possible. I would tend to agree more with the premise that happy women have some kind of creative pursuit. Whether that be flowers, or scrapbooking, or baking whatever.

I love to plant flowers. It makes me happy and is great therapy and I love being outside in the warm sunshine. My patio every year looks like small green house exploded.

Or maybe planting flowers is the CAUSE of happiness. I enjoy flowers, watching them bloom. They make me happy, but I am overall a happy person so accept your neighbors take on it.

I could see that being true. We have the space, but I never do anything in the yard (well other than use the pool).

I seem to have the compulsion to plant at least some hanging baskets and a border or two -- even when it's not logical or likely to end well. I recognize that it is a compulsion -- but a pretty healthy one, and not too extreme.
I think for me it's about potential and hope -- when I assemble a hanging basket, it's not going to look all that amazing, but I know that as the plants grow and fill in, it will be spectacular -- so it's anticipatory appreciation.
And probably some memory activation -- I used this same combo in my single working girl baclony planters, and these snapdragons were so popular with the kids when they were little. . .

I ripped out all of our grass, flowers, and other water hogging plants in favor of cactus and succulents. I'm a drought happy woman. There must be something exciting about this, I have friend that getting "desert" plants is like birthing . I really love planting but "desert" plants make me nervous.

I love to have hanging baskets of flowers, and flowers in pots and in the in flower beds. I haven't purchased or planted any flowers this spring. We will be away many days this summer and I don't want to have to worry about keeping my flowers and plants watered.

Sorry, but I can't relate to this at all! I would rather do anything than plant. Now, my mom and grandmother LOVE it!!! Guess I missed that gene.

Happy men and women here! My DH and I both love to "play in the dirt"...we transplanted several things a couple of weekends ago and I just did my planter by the front door this morning. I also usually stroll around the yard in the evening after dinner and deadhead or weed a bit. It's very relaxing to me.

Not me......gardening is one of those things I will avoid as much as I can. I derive no pleasure from it. Flowers in others gardens are okay. But they don't bring me joy. Whereas I go on a crazy cooking frenzy and invite people over when I feel good.

Yes we have been planting flowers since we moved. Amanda picked our first strawberry last night. It was tiny but she said it was good tasting and juicy.
