Thought I'd start this thread this week-waiting on daughter to get home from prom :-)
So.... That ending? Powerful, but so so sad. The best scene of the episode.
The rest? Can't say I loved it nearly as much as previous episodes. It seemed like a very choppy episode. They covered a lot and I felt like the scenes bounced back and forth and lost its fluidity. The scene at the hospital with Monsieur Forez and then Master Raymond-interesting scenes which seemed to be setting up for a future storyline, but seemed unconnected to this particular episode.
Then we get a wonderful scene about telling Murtagh about Claire-well done, but I would have preferred that scene to be longer, especially between Murtagh and Claire.
Here's probably my biggest dislikes of the episode. We leave off episode 5 with a huge chasm between Claire and Jamie. And when we see them together in episode he's rubbing her feet. What the what?? That was one fast reconciliation. That was just weird and seemed isolated in the story.
Claire with the gossipy women? Was that necessary? It was just yet another scene they added that wasn't that important.
Jamie and Fergus at the brothel. I have to say I'm very very (or verra verra) relieved they shot that scene the way they did. It was ominous and shocking at the same time. We could draw conclusions, but I'm glad we didn't see anything.
Which leads me back to the end. That last scene more than made up for the rest of the episode. Toni Graphia will be writing episode 7 (BOO! Past the hallway point) so I think she's the perfect person to take where the story leaves off and do something wonderful with it. Can't wait for next week.

We could draw conclusions, but I'm glad we didn't see anything. I would have liked to have seen something, just so I knew what happened. Did Black Jack kill Fergus? Molest him? Hold him hostage to force Jamie to see him? If this was explained, I missed it. Can someone fill me in?

There's a preview that shows a confrontation between Jamie and Black Jack in the brothel. So I'm pretty certain that what happens to Fergus will likely be retold through flashback next week. I can spoil for you what happens in the book, but not sure if this answer will be enough until next week.

I actually just wrote the scene off as filler like the gossiping women and then was confused when Claire came home and found that Jamie was out at the duel.

I'm on my phone so can't use the spoiler feature, so will when I get home. But I will say that in the book we don't find out until several months after the fact. So in essence, it's like the book that you are kept in suspense not knowing what would make Jamie betray his word.

I have to agree that we will find out what happens in flash backs with Fergus. I was sort of thinking the episode dragged out. Like hurry up and get to it already. KWIM? I'm listening to DIA in audio book right now. So I am totally seeing how differently they filmed this. Interesting.

So many things started but left undone, leaving us to wonder why they are chopping it up this way. I have been wondering (not having read the books) why she was growing so big in these episodes, yet was not showing in the first episode when she went back to the future. I guess the events at the end of the episode must be the reason why.

That last scene was intense, really well done. I was in tears. I had forgotten why Jamie had broken his promise and dueled with Randall anyway... ugh.

Completely agree with everything you said and you said it so well. I don't really have anything else to add. Can't wait until next week. Debbie in MD.

I liked the episode, but there were several parts I skipped when watching the second time. I liked the scene where Claire is experimenting on Jamie to recreate small pox. I thought it was good to have a scene with her and Murtagh, but I thought him listing the years was stupid. The bedroom scene was very sweet. Monsieur Forez is creepy! The dual and what happened after was so difficult to watch, and we know it only gets worse.
