I had my first swimming lesson today and I can swim! Ok, not very well and I snorted more water than I care to mention but I managed to get from one side of the pool to the other without a float of any kind. I'm ridiculously pleased with myself Waiting to get in to the pool was terrifying and I almost turned round, got dressed and came home, I'm so glad I didn't. Have you done anything lately that terrified you?

Swimming is the greatest. I'm glad you got past the scary. Now it will just get better and better. No one will be able to pull you out of the pool. Congrats!

Way to go!
Everytime we go on a hike I'm terrified of running into a rattlesnake - does that count? In 10 years living in CA, the only one I have seen was in our backyard so I don't know why I am so terrified of running into one on a trail.

Congratulations!! I love the water and being in the water (of all kinds-pools, oceans, lakes etc) and you are going to have so much fun!!! My fear conquered lately? While my truck is being diagnosed to see if it lives or dies, I am driving my parents work truck. It is a little standard transmission and while I drive it once a year or see to keep up my skills, driving in traffic causes anxiety. The biggest thing though is stopping on a hill-fortunately I live in fairly flat Florida but I had no idea how many hilly spots we had until I had to go from a dead stop with people behind me at me at a light. I spent that red light almost hyperventilating. I did just fine-but don't want to do it again any time soon.

thank you. Oh that counts, that definitely counts. If I thought I could run in to a rattlesnake I'd never go outside

I swim every week at least twice a week and I still suck up a bunch of water! I'm glad you took the plunge.

That is a fantastic achievement, I don't like the water and can barely manage a width doing breast stroke - anything else is completely out of the question so I can imagine how delighted you are after just 1 lesson. Well done!

Did you wear that swimsuit you were interested in? I did, it was really comfortable and covered the bits I was worried about! Thank you for all the kind words, I'm still on a high.

Good for you! I'm really anxious and scared about things touching my eyes. Well, last week I got an eye infection and have had to put drops in 4 times a day. I'm 3 days into it and I finally feel like every time I do it my heart isn't racing. It isn't pleasant but I'm not in a big panic like I was.

Congrats! I hope you learn to love the water!
My recent accomplishment doesn't really compare w/ yours, but I'm still proud of myself. I'm afraid of afraid of heights and last Sunday we were in Chicago and I forced myself to go to the top of the Sears tower and pose for pictures on the glass bottom ledge.

I spent my young years living on the ocean and had no fear of the water. Then we returned to Ontario and the lakes. The lakes scare me. I'm okay as long as my feet touch the bottom and my face is out of the water. I do not go in pools because the chemicals burn my skin.

That is fantastic and I'm so proud of you! What an achievement to conquer your fear, swallow it and and go forth anyway with determination to accomplish your goal. You should be pleased with yourself! If you drink I would think a glass of champagne, oh heck, a whole bottle is in order!
