That is an awesome accomplishment!
I would love to learn how to lap swim like a real swimmer.

Congrats! I can keep myself afloat and get from one side of the pool to the other with no problem, but i never learned proper strokes. I'd also love to be able to swim proper laps for exercise. As for being brave, I don't have a phobia of them or anything, but I did kill a scorpion in DS's closet yesterday.

That's a huge accomplishment. Congratulations! I know several people who are afraid of water and just cannot get themselves into it at all.
I've faced a few fears over the years. One was flying -- I did a self hypnosis course to work through it. Nothing recently, though.

Yay! Good for you. And no, I haven't done anything brave like that in a long time.

Fantastic! Congratulations, that is a great accomplishment. I've always thought swimming would be a hard skill to acquire as an adult. If you get a chance, try swimming in salt water it is much easier.

I had my first swimming lesson today and I can swim! Ok, not very well and I snorted more water than I care to mention but I managed to get from one side of the pool to the other without a float of any kind. I'm ridiculously pleased with myself Waiting to get in to the pool was terrifying and I almost turned round, got dressed and came home, I'm so glad I didn't. Have you done anything lately that terrified you? Congratulations!! I like to challenge myself to step just outside my comfort zone often. I can't think of anything that's terrified me though. Good for you for facing your fear, pushing on and getting through it!

I'm so proud for you !!!! My DH doesn't swim and he had such a hard time watching our kids do water activities because he knew he couldn't save them if something happened. We've been talking about taking swim lessons together this fall - him to learn swim basics and me to learn real strokes. I hope he decides to do it, but I'll understand if he doesn't. As for doing something that terrifies me - I have a problem getting on planes. Not with flying or being on a plane, but with the process of being squished between tall people in a tight, enclosed space. I'm short and there's something about all the arm pits and the chests right at my eye level that make me feel like I can't breath. My terrified attempts to breathe trigger my asthma and raise my bp, so I end up red faced, sweaty, and gasping for breath. Would you want to sit next to a fat girl who looks like that? Once I was on the plane and in my seat, I could turn my head to look out the window and my panic would usually subside before the plane started taxiing for takeoff. Those few minutes getting there though were the stuff of nightmares to me. My normal solution to the problem is take a dose of Xanax and to board between 2 family members who give me some space, preferably as early as possible so the plane still seems to be wide open. I went to China recently to see my DD and, since I was traveling alone, my normal solution wasn't going to work. Worrying about it kept me up for days and I must have changed my seats half a dozen times. I finally called Delta and explained to the woman on the phone about my problem. She was so kind! She told me that she would flag my tickets so the boarding people would see that I needed special assistance and I would be allowed to board early. I had already upgraded to Delta Comfort level, so I was going to be boarding early, but this put me on even earlier. She did what she said she'd do and it worked out so well. DD had told me that the flight leaving China would not allow this but they did. Not only did they allow it, they told me at the check-in area that I should come to the front as soon as they announced they were almost ready to board. I did and they let me get on the plane right then - first one on! I almost cried I was so relieved. DD and I took a plane within China, from Shanghai to Guangzhou, and it was the one I was most worried about. DD had told me that the Chinese flights she had taken had always been first come, first on and the aisles and seats were really small. We lucked out and got a plane that was tight, but somehow seemed much larger. DD went ahead of me and we kept some space between us until we got to our seats. The only carryon we had went under the seat so we were able to get right in our seats. I don't know if it was the way the plane was lit or built or the amount of Xanax DD poured down me prior to the flight, but I got on and made the trip with a minimum of trouble. At least, I think so - I slept most of the flight! Not gonna lie, I felt like a beast when I started on the final leg of my trip without a dose of Xanax. Maybe not a big deal for some, but it was the first time I'd flown without pharmaceuticals since I actually triggered an asthma attack at the start of a flight years ago. Marcy

That's awesome! I'm going through the same process right now - learning how to swim. I've been taking private lessons since January. I can see the progress each week and the feeling of accomplishment is amazing.
