Shaving your head isn't going to help. Your hair is just naturally going to be more dry. I use Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum to keep down the frizz and flyaways and I deep condition as often as possible. It also helps if you don't shampoo every day. I'm 52 and (obviously) fully gray (although I prefer silver!) and I use a purple shampoo so that's extra drying. Lots and lots of thick conditioner is my friend and I try not to use a ton of product - just the Super Skinny I mentioned above (I use it on dry hair - very sparingly, rubbed into my hands and then through my hair.) I'm interested in trying this but I'm seeing 2 bottles on Amazon both called the same thing but one has a green top and the other is pink. Which do you use? I use the green top. I've never seen the pink. (ETA: I just checked - it was just a Susan Komen edition - who, by the way went to my high school) Sometimes Ulta Beauty has small sample sizes of it so you might check there. It last forever because you use so little.

My hair changed from stick straight to very wavy and dry during menopause. I swear by a line of hair products called "Curly Hair Solutions". You can find them here www.frizzoff.com After my hair changed I went through lots and lots of different products trying to find "the one" that really worked well including coconut oil treatments, and it wasn't until I tried these products that I noticed a huge improvement right away. I've been using them every since. I love them! For my hair I use: Shampoo-Silk Shampoo, Conditioner-Pure Silk Protein Conditioner For Styling I use: Leave in Conditioner-well I just looked on the site and they've changed the product but the one they've changed it to is Curl Keeper Leave in Conditioner. So next time I'm out I'll order that. I also use Curl Keeper the Original as my styling product. What I do for the styling part-this is if you have wavy hair or curls-is after I rinse out the conditioner I turn my head upside down in the shower and squeeze most of the water out. These products use water to bind with as moisture instead of oil. I then rake the leave in conditioner through my hair (I have long hair) and then follow with the Curl Keeper Solution (two handfuls) through my hair. The Curl Keeper Solution is like magic. It eliminates frizz but dries so softly in my hair, never leaving that stiff look that hair gel sometimes leave. It even lasts a few days so that in the morning all I have to do is wet my comb and run it through my hair to activate it again. I then place a long sleeved T-shirt on the floor, kneel on the floor and wrap my head in it (it's called plopping) using the arms of the T-shirt to tie a knot around my forehead. This secures it on my head and I can go ahead and get dressed while my hair blots dry a bit. Most girls take down their hair and it's in beautiful curls this way, but I prefer to comb mine out and let it form it's own waves. These products have really changed my hair. The moisture it needed so badly is now added to it thanks to these products and it's no longer frizzy at all. Because it is so dry (I also have very bad hypothyroid) I only wash my hair every 5 days. You can go to this website and order the tight curl kit which has all of the products in smaller sizes except it doesn't have the conditioner-that you would have to order separately. And the conditioner I mentioned-the Pure Silk Protein one is really the biggest hit of the whole line. Some of these products can be found at Amazon. I first ordered from this site and learned about the products, how they are made and what they are all about there. Now I order them from Amazon. Debbie in MD.

I have the standard kinky wiry grays. Otherwise no real change. My mother had a drastic change, but I'm not sure what issue caused it. She had a combo of Type 2 diabetes, Rx for Lotrimin and bypass surgery. One or all of those caused her hair to become very fine and fluffy like candy floss. It was the oddest texture.

My hair didn't become wavy. It is still straight as a board and has no body. My problem is hair loss. Every time I shampoo I have a large amount of hair caught in the drain. My shower drain is large, but if I shower in the tub it is enough to clog up the drain in the tub. I think in 5 years I will be bald.

This could be sex hormones, or thyroid, etc.

I will be sad to lose my stick straight hair. I hope that doesn't happen. I've never been a product or a styling girl. I don't want to have to start that now in my 50s.
