My DD (6) has pnuemonia in her lower right lobe. She went from fine to a fever on Friday and by Saturday we had added an intermittent cough. We went to Urgent care on Sunday where they diagnosed her with bronchitis. The Urgent Care doc assured me a he heard no crackling. Monday her pediatrician saw her and ordered an xray. Sure enough pnuemonia. This is her second bout in the last 18 months (last time it was in the left side). Reccurant pnuemonia is defined by most as 2 cases in 1 year or 3 ever.
Most of my Google research shows a correlation with asthma or immune disorders and general sickliness. She has neither. Only missed 1 day of school. Only one doctors appointment in the last year and that was to have a wart removed.
I am trying to make a list of questions for the doctor other than why is she getting pnuemonia and why she seems to come down with it so quickly (without a previous illness becoming pnuemonia).
Anyone have experience with reccurant pnuemonia? Prayers and good thoughts appreciated too. She's only coughing a little, but very tired and doesn't have much of am appetite. It's hard to keep her restin and entertained when all she wants is to go to school and back to swim team practice.

It's hard to keep her restin and entertained when all she wants is to go to school and back to swim team practice. How often is she in the water? Has it increased in the last few months? Probably not related, but I tried to be on the high school swim team. The excessive amount of time in the pool had me constantly sick with a stuffed up nose that was gross. I also got a cold that was one of the hardest for me to get over. I found out I was allergic to chlorine. I can go swimming, but not like I did.

She just started swim team at the beginning of May. Mon-Fri for 3o mins a day. The last episode of pnuemonia was in November so no swimming then, but I will add that info to my list for tomorrow.
Thank you for mentioning your experience!

DS once had a pneumonia caused by excessive chlorine exposure from his school's pool. Exercise was suggested to help clear his lungs. Hoping she recovers quickly.

The whole family has allergies but if she has them hers seem very mild. She's never been tested because we've never had a need. Other than tubes in her ears when she was 1 and two bouts with pnuemonia, she's really healthy
Older brother (8) has a laundry list of environmental allergies and a couple of food allergies plus asthma so we are definitely familiar with both.

Yes. Pneumonia is a bugger. I had to take 3 different antibiotics for about 9 weeks once.

Has your dd been tested for asthma? Once asthma started colds quickly turned to bronchitis or pneumonia until the asthma was well managed. I'm sorry that your dd is suffering w/pneumonia. It just sucks.

I had it twice in my late 20s/early 30s. My understanding was that it was not unusual for someone to contract it more than once. My prayers and warm thoughts for your DD. Pneumonia is exhausting and so miserable.

You have my sympathy and I hope she feels better soon. One of my Dd's came down with a very serious bout of pneumonia when she was 13 and she spent 8 days at Seattle Children's Hospital, mostly in PICU, so I know what you are dealing with. As far as it reoccurring, is there any chance you have hidden mold in your home or her school or anywhere else she spends a lot of time? Just another idea for you to check out. Hope you can figure it out!

DS and I both have asthma. I have had pneumonia many, many times. DS has only had it 3 or 4 times. He has been hospitalized with it twice. We have had more antibiotics than I think they make sometimes. He has been extremely healthy since he moved out of grade 2 I think. He never gets sick now so I hope she gets stronger and outgrows this.
