Some etsy folks make custom patches. See if you can find someone to make you a patch you can love!

I think i'd appliqué my own patch that covered the other one. Hire someone to do whatever design you'd like in the colors that go with the bag. Etsy is a good suggestion too. You might even find someone who could do the custom work there too.

Could you just remove the patch from the new bag with a seam ripper?
What about using fabric paint to stencil something abstract onto it, or find someone who silk screens in your community?

Hmmm, I like the idea of fabric paint, I might give that a whirl on a test fabric to see how that Goes.
I haven't taken the old patch off yet. I am slightly worried it will be discolored underneath. If it is I will have to find a patch I like. I will check etsy for sure. I didn't know people could custom make one

Do you have an electronic cutter? You could make a freezer paper stencil to use with fabric paint. They sell textile medium that you can add to standard acrylic paints. Or you could make an iron on design with your cutter and HTV(heat transfer vinyl). Just make sure you can use an iron on oil cloth.

(I dislike this type of branding on my bags!) You might search for applique instead of of patch to find things that are less 1970's patch looking and more artsy/personality.

depending on the shape of the patch, if the area underneath is a different color or the holes are very visible, you could potentially work that into the design. if you love the kitty design, you could contact that seller and ask if you shipped them the bag, would they print it for you. it's etsy, after all, there's more flexibility there usually.

Since the whole point of the oil cloth finish is that it sheds stains and is impervious to wear, you may have trouble getting fabric paints to adhere well -- so some experimentation is going to be needed. I know some upcyclers working with bags and purses swear by sharpie paint pens even on difficult finishes, so that might be worth a try.

I am not sure of the condition of the flap, but could you salvage it to attach to the flap of the new one?
