The cramping started within 3 minutes of coming out of anesthesia. And then steadily got worse. I misjudged how painful this recovery would be. I was concerned about the 190 degree saline burning my uterus lining when what I should have been worried about was the dilation of the cervix!
I am staying ahead of the pain with percoset and 800mg Motrin and a heating pad. Got home from the clinic around 5pm and did not start even feeling remotely better until about 30 minutes ago.
My husband is working in KC right now so my almost 19 year old son got the honor of taking care of me and he has been AMAZING! He was waited on me hand and foot which is so sweet.
I should feel much better by in the morning but I will continue to manage the pain with the percoset if I need to.
Also...if this ablation thing works and my periods lessen dramatically or even go away....I would totally recommend doing this for other women with heavy periods. Just be mindful of how much pain you will be in the hours after the procedure.

I'm so sorry you're in that much pain. Hopefully, you'll be feeling better soon.
When I had mine done (Novasure), I was home within 45 minutes of being wheeled into recovery. I had some minor cramping but milked for several days. Heating pad and percs were my friends.

Wow-kudos to your son!!!! Modern won't gods. Thanks you! (Lol- ha:)- leaving above freaky sentences in because they were oddly appropriate auto corrects!)
I hope you heal soon! (My words, not Auto correct!)

Take the weekend and let your wonderful son pamper you. From what I've read about ablation it's very worth it.

I'm sorry you had such a tough time with the cramping. I slept mine off after I got home. By the next day, I didn't need any pain meds at all.
I hope the ablation works for you. It's been a godsend for me.

Heal well and tomorrow you might be a little bit sore but once I got past the cramping it was mild soreness the next day but that was it. Life changing and so worth it. My cramps were horrible too. I was taking the max of the pain meds the first 8 hours and still in a lot of pain.

Sorry you are feeling this way. I had ibuprofen once after and then nothing. It was so worth it to me

My doc told me I could return to work 24 hours after the procedure. He lied. It took me a good two days before I felt remotely better. Unfortunately I took him at his word and drove an hour to work, only to realize there was no way I was going to make it through my shift, so turned around and drove an hour home. That might be why it took longer Rest up over the weekend and do as little as possible while you can It will make a difference. Oh and stay on top of the pain medicine for the first 24-48 hours. Don't pretend you don't need them like someone who shall remain anonymous

Don't pretend you don't need them like someone who shall remain anonymous Gee...who might that be? And yes...I am scheduling my pain meds to taking them on time regardless of whether or not I am in pain at that moment. And tomorrow morning I am starting Miralax just in case!

Sorry you are having the cramping. I, luckily, did not have much that an Advil or day of percocets didn't handle. I was actually at work the next day. I had some varicose veins on my external labial area that were cauterized and that was what caused me so much pain. Glad I did it both procedures but that ablation was life changing!!! I had mine in 2011 and haven't had even a hint of a period since.
Hope you get better and make sure to drink a lot of water while taking percocets.

The pain was a 10 on the pain scale for a good 5 hours after the procedure. I took the maximum amount of pain meds and it felt like it didn't touch the pain. The next fun part is the watery discharge that seems to last forever!!!! I contemplated buying urine pads because it was too much for a regular pad.

I had mine done on December 6th along with a fibroid removal. Unfortunately my periods never stopped ~ I think I'm probably the exception to the rule ...

Although mine have decreased in duration and heaviness. I had mine done under local with sedation so I was awake during and reacted negatively to the morphine that was used for pain relief afterwards. Wasn't sure whether it was the vomiting from the morphine or uterine cramps that were worse. But I was home 3 hours later as soon as I could hold down liquid. I was back at work the next day.

Thank you for your honesty about this. I have contemplated this procedure for awhile and no one has ever shared this side of the surgery. It's always rainbows and unicorns and back to work the next day. With that said, I guess a day or two of pain to end periods is better than three days of pain every 23 days. Hope today is more comfortable for you.

It's always rainbows and unicorns and back to work the next day. My doctor only does these procedures on Fridays so we get a forced rest from work. Her exact words before I left were "Be kind to yourself this weekend". I am awake very early this morning but I am sure that I will be going to back to sleep very soon. Just having some mild cramping this morning, but I am also layering the percoset and 800mg Motrin and will continue to do so through at least Sunday morning. I do not want to scare anybody away from the procedure, I just want everyone to be aware that the immediate recovery could be extremely uncomfortable so that they can be prepared. I did not pick up my pain scripts early so I was home for an hour before I got to my first percoset. That was a bad decision. Ask your doctor if you can get the scripts earlier in the week so you can take them as soon as you get home. And have crackers and ginger ale on hand for the nausea. I was given zofran via IV at the end of the procedure but it did not help me a whole lot. But I gotta say...propyfol is good stuff! I went to sleep and woke up and it was done!
