I am am working on cleaning out our basement and I found a big box of my and DHs old records. I hadnt seen them in years - we don't even have a turntable anymore. Going through them was such a nostalgia kick! I really miss those days - you would buy an album and pore over the cover art, then the inside would usually have the lyrics to every song, and you would play that sucker front and back till you knew every song by heart I rremember how excited I was to my first two albums with my babysitting money! They were: Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf The Stranger - Billy Joel Do you remember your first? Was it an album or CD?

Well I'm a Dinosaur from the Dark Ages so there was no such thing as a CD back then. lol. -- I have no memory of what was the first one I bought but I suspect it was Bobby Sherman. {swoon} -- I was always jealous of my friend Susie because her name fit right into Bobby's song "Julie, Julie, Julie do you love me..." ["Susie, Susie, Susie, do you love me..."] but mine didn't because it was too long. hahaha Bobby Sherman.... And true confessions.... I have a few of his songs on my iPod.

I remember handing over my hard earned babysitting money to my friend to buy me Cheap Trick Live at Budokan. That brings back some memories!

I had to send my mother out on a mission to buy my first ever CD. I gave her money and told her to get me Pearl Jam - Ten. And if they didn't have it, Stone Temple Pilots - Core. She came home with Stone Temple Pilots, and I still love that album (so sad to hear about Scott Weiland's passing recently). But I still bought Pearl Jam a few weeks later. As you can probably tell, I was a teenager in the early 90's

Yes, it was a major event in the day to have your mom drive you to the record store. I also used my baby sitting wages to purchase my first record...Breakfast in America Supertramp.

The first one I can remember buying on my own, with my own money, was the original Grease soundtrack. I was 10 when it was released in 1978 and it was a double album. It was also one of those records I made a point to replace with a cassette tape and then with a CD when they came out.
We did own others as a family like Bat Out of Hell, Bee Gees, Shawn Cassidy but those were parent purchases.
ETA: My parents played 8 tracks in the car.
