NEW QUESTION - if we are planning for 150 people, how many would you order? They come in sleeves of 250. That may be pushing it, but 500 seems like a lot. I can see people using a more than one if they want a couple different dips. I am going with the 3.25 oz black cups.I would like to order some portion cups for DS graduation so people can put salsa, guacamole and cheese sauce in them to go with the chips. I don't know what size to order and for some reason I just cannot envision how big the cups will be based on the sizes listed. I don't want a cup that is too small because it would be a pain using a chip to get the salsa out, but I don't want one so big that there is a lot of waste. Here are the 2 cups I am looking at: 3.25 oz cup, 4 oz cup. The 4 oz cup is listed with a 6.5 diameter top, I don't think this is correct. So, which would you order? I just can't make decisions anymore. Thanks so much. ETA - to give more info: I cannot stand salsa or cheese on top of my chips and then eating them, they get way to soggy. We have Food Trays like this for the burrito bowls and then we figured people would also use them for chips and salsa/dip, so a portion cup could easily fit in there and keep things separate. I will have to check out supply stores close by. We have a Sam's Club membership, but they did not have what we wanted. Another question, if we are planning for 150 people, how many would you order? I can see people using a more than one if they want a couple different dips.

Do you have a restaurant supply store near you (the one here is called Cash n Carry)? That way you can actually see them in person. I'm horrible at picturing the size of things, even with the dimensions listed.

We have a Smart and Final that sells this type of stuff. I had no idea they carried it for a long time.

If you are using it for dipping, I'd go with the 4oz cup. A 2oz cup is the size salad dressing comes in when you order a salad.

Gordon Food Service nearby? I can tell you that 2 oz cups are "jello shot" sized (or salad dressing sized if you prefer). I also think the 6.5" diameter is a mistake. With those 2 sizes, I think I would just go with the 4 oz size and just have a small ladle or spoon in the larger container to avoid waste.

For the sauces/dips you're talking about, a souffle cup is sufficient which I think is 2 oz. It's shorter and wider which is what you want for chips.

4oz is half a cup. 2 oz is 1/4 cup. the 6.5 may be centimeters and not inches.

I measured the 2oz cups I have and it's 2 1/4" across and 1" deep to the rim if that helps you decide.

Keep in mind that the bigger the cup, the more people will fill them and you'll potentially need more sauces/dips.

i think each person taking a half cup of salsa would be a lot. whenever we go to parties, people usually just put chips on their plates and spoon some queso or salsa on top of their chips on their plates. i guess it would be nice to have a little cup, but i have never been to a party that had them.

they have the jello shot size (2 oz.) at walmart in a smaller quantity than you are looking at ordering.

You cannot put a chip in a 2oz cup. It's about 1-1/2" across at most. The other poster is correct. They are perfect jello shot cups. I also use those to bring salad dressing or salsa to work. It's what size the fast food places like taco cabano put their guac, salsa and sour cream in. Only slightly larger than a ketchup or chicken nugget cup.

2 oz would be way too small. That is what we use to give our daughter ketchup for her fries. No way would a chip fit in there. I found this picture but it is hard to visualize that actual sizes. I think you would be fine with either 3.25 oz or 4 oz.

Here is another picture comparing 3.25 and 4 oz.

Here is another picture comparing 3.25 and 4 oz. I like the shape of the smaller cup better, I think it would work better with chips. I think I would rather have people have to refill rather than get too much and throw out.

I'm pretty sure most of the fast food Mexican restaurants around me have the 1.5 oz cups for salsa. Works for me...

I wouldn't get more than 250...some people might not even use them! I;d toss the dips right on my chips

I would get 2 but keep one sealed until I absolutely needed it. If I didn't need it I would return it.

I wouldn't get more than 250...some people might not even use them! I;d toss the dips right on my chips I know I wouldn't use them because it's just one more thing to juggle. I'd put the dips right on my plate. Having all of those little cups on my plate wouldn't leave any room for the actual food!
