My sister always makes me a banana cake for my birthday. Her recipe is to die for. The frosting is excellent, made with cream cheese and it has nuts on it. It is my absolute favorite cake.

I'm trying to stay away from cake right now because I'd probably eat the whole thing, not to mention it's too hot to turn on the oven. but my friend makes a tres leches cake that is fabulous. Another friend makes a Harvey Wallbanger cake that is amazing, more so because it starts with a box mix. I've never made it myself since I don't have Galliano in the house, but it's a bundt cake that always gets raves.
This weekend I was at a wedding and the wedding cake was really good - a dense torte with hazelnut filling. Not the run of the mill wedding cake. I might have to try to recreate that on a smaller (much) scale once fall arrives.

There is a little german resturant in Spring City, UT that has amazing food. I had their carrot cake as well as their Nutella cake (I don't even like carrot cake). They were both the best cake I have tasted EVER! So moist and yummy.

GromPea---your peach bundt looks so pretty and YUMMY!!! I just posted this on a baking thread......if you like cherries, pineapples, and yellow cake---(nuts are optional, of course---AND, you could always change the fruits!).....THIS cake is SO quick to make (NO MIXING!), and sooo yummy! I've eaten wayyy too much of it so far !! **We don't like walnuts, so I used pecans (if you pre- roast the nuts, they have much more flavor!!!) allrecipes.com/recipe/dump-cake-i/

I haven't met a cake that I didn't like.
Texas Sheet Cake is one of my absolute favorites, though!

I make from-scratch cakes and for oldest ds' 18th b'day made 350 chocolate cupcakes from scratch since he was dining with the entire marching band and staff before a competition that night.
The "fanciest" cake I've made is this:
Triple Lemon-Blueberry Layer Cake
I made it for Easter and it was a big hit. I did make the lemon curd filling from scratch but I left the icing white and just iced it with a spatula instead of breaking out the pastry bag.[/font]

An easy cake to make is a box of angel food mix with a can of crushed pineapple. Bake till spongy and brown on top. I use a large oblong pan. Delish!
