How do you scrap vacations and special events like weddings and family reunions, or music festivals? I mean all the way from what types of photos you take, to the papers and other elements you select, to organizing albums? Do you use a lot of themed papers or do you work with generic designs and colours? What about ephemera? The real kind like programs and tickets and receipts, or the Tim Holtz or BoBunny versions? What about brochures and post cards?
And when do you scrap these adventures? During vacation? Right after you get home? Do you journal while gone to help you remember the highlights?
Do you vacation the same place every year? Or do you do the same activity, like camping? If so, how do you make your new pages fresh?
Outdoor activities are tough to capture, with people spread out and lots of movement. Indoor venues often have lighting not conducive to photography, and you may not be near enough to the main event to get a clear shot. How do you handle these hurdles?

I'll just talk about vacations. I have a little leather journal I take along. Each evening I write about our day. I use lots of theme papers. I love having "real" ephemera to include. I always spray it with archival mist. I figure if I am going to the trouble of scrapbooking, I will make everything as acid free as possible.
I usually try to scrapbook big vacations right away while everything is fresh in my mind.

How do you scrap vacations and special events like weddings and family reunions, or music festivals? When I've scrapped vacations, I'm a theme scrapper all the way. Disney gets Disney everything on every single page. Beach get sand and waves. Camping gets tents and smores. I love, love, love any topic that I can throw into a well defined theme. Makes scrapbooking a thousand times easier. I definitely use real ephemera. Love business cards, post cards, brochures, receipts, ticket stubs, etc. I like to scrap the trip within a couple of months of going. It is often nearly as much fun for me as actually going on the trip itself. Do you journal while gone to help you remember the highlights? I keep a notepad and jot down highlights and stuff from each day. Could be funny things said, places we visited, restaurants we ate at, etc. I also make note of special photos taken that day, and not to be forgotten during the scrapping process. Do you vacation the same place every year? Or do you do the same activity, like camping? If so, how do you make your new pages fresh? Well, not a vacation, but I have a science museum membership this year, and we've visited several times already. To make it fresh, I'm not trying to take all the same photos each time. My goal is just a couple really interesting pics each visit. A pic of my dd at an interesting angle. Trying to see something I've seen over & over again in a new way. And I make sure to go whenever they bring in a new traveling exhibit. Outdoor activities are tough to capture, with people spread out and lots of movement. Indoor venues often have lighting not conducive to photography, and you may not be near enough to the main event to get a clear shot. How do you handle these hurdles? Well, I definitely try to capture what I can. I also rely on professional photos, and photos that other people at the event have uploaded to Flickr and Facebook.

vacations get a separate album unless they were day/weekend trips that fit on just a handful of layouts. I do like theme papers and embellishments but I don't usually do a whole album that coordinates through out. The closest I've come to that are my mum's travel albums that I use all white cardstock bases for and a fairly consistent layout 'look'
for places like the zoo where we visit more than once? I aim to capture different areas/different aspects each visit. When my children were younger, we always took a photo by the same gorilla statue at zoo we went to most often and it was fun watching them (and our family - the first photo is just my oldest) grow.
I do journal for bigger trips - I kept a journal on our trip to Chicago in January but not one for the weekends away. I find FB and emails help fill in the gaps when I go back and scrap

For Disney I try to use a lot of themed elements (since I can't resist buying them) but I don't really use a lot of themed papers. I sometimes make my own themed embellishments. It always takes me a while to get the photos from my camera to my computer and then to Costco to print. I'm always behind, but I always have plenty to scrap.

Most of my vacations aren't really big and they just go in my regular album unless the number of pages dictates that it should have its own. I like to scrap them soon after they happen. I find it more fun then. I do include ephemera: maps, tickets, brochures, postcards. I tend to use themed paper if it's an outdoorsy trip (woods/camping paper etc.) If it's to a city, I just go with what I have that suits the page or with general travel themed paper. I've never been to Disney, so I'm jealous of those of you who have. I try to get clear picture but I will use a blurry one if it's the only one I have for my story. Alternately, I will buy a postcard of something that I didn't get a photo of. This year I actually did a few digital pages while traveling because of LOAD.

I love scrapping vacations! I usually use an 8x8 album and I love the whole process of choosing which pictures I'll use and planning which layout they'll go on. I usually draw up a little sketch for each layout so I know exactly what to do once I get the pictures. Sometimes I'll use themed supplies, but I'll usually just go with a paper pad and matching embellishments so I know I'll have enough for the whole album.
The next one I'll be working on is our recent trip to Disneyland and I'm so looking forward to reliving our vacation while scrapping it. DD1 and I turned into total Disney fanatics during this trip and can't wait to go back next year. I'll be using a 12x12 album this time and I have a good amount of Say Cheese and Say Cheese II ready to go. I have the layouts planned out and sketches pinned for inspiration. That'll probably be in the next batch of pictures I edit. For that trip I had a list of things I wanted pictures of. Characters, rides, food, the castle, Blue Bayou, etc. That's the only time I've had a list ahead of time.
For other trips I take a picture every time I get a feeling inside that tells me I'll want to remember that moment. For camping it's usually DH making breakfast, everyone around the campfire, lounging by the lake, people laughing and looking relaxed, and camping food. Speaking of camping, this reminds me that I need to look for a place that still has spots open. Thanks for the reminder!

If my first name is patterned paper, memorabilia is my middle name. I scrap big trips in their own albums, and small trips in the chronological albums. When I travel I am always on the hunt for anything I can use on my pages. Here is an oldie but goodie from a Disney trip at least 15 years ago. But it is typical of things I would include. I have the brochure in a pocket so it could be pulled out and looked at, the slip of paper they gave us with the time we could get a table, and the sunglasses were cut from a napkin at Planet Hollywood. Of course there are photos and some journalling, and theme elements. Love how you included all the memorabilia! TFS.

I love that you have found a way to scrap on your phone at the end of each day when away from home. What a great way to record the experience. And I love your page about the bakery with the napkin on it. Awesome!

The big trips dh and I go on...I keep a travel journal and will scrapbook later in their own album. Thanks for reminding me, I have our last Florida trip to do. I also tend to be more themey with these trips.
Small family trips, will go in the grandkid's albums in the chronological order.
But then ds has pics that are of his Mountain climbing/hike...so he will probably get a mini album of the specific trip
My kids go on regular Yosemite, Shasta trips, luckily there are a ton of pp options out there to keep them fresh.
