I need to purchase uniform items for my little guy (Yes, he is starting K which is crazy that time has flown!) and the only thing we have to purchase from the uniform store is the tie. We can get everything there but you can also buy the items elsewhere. I have seen uniform items at Childrens place, Target, maybe Crazy 8, Lands End, etc.) and am trying to quickly figure out where we can get the best quality items. Really I am most concerned about comfort and being durable. If there is another place that has items please post. My oldest son had a uniform but that was years ago and we have more options with it. TIA
Khaki shorts, khaki pants and black pants White collared dress shirt button down Polo shirts (plain no logo) in red, black or white.
So not hard at all just trying to find the best place and quality with the least amount of running around! We do have a Childrens Place and Target close by. I wonder if Sears still sells Lands End. He is a tough one size wise so it helps to be able to try on. In shorts he is in 2's, 3's and 4's. Shirts 5-6. He is slender and needs an adjustable waist for sure. He isn't tall but if the waist fits it is too short.

My mom bought my boys Chaps brand polos last year from Kohls and they held up really well. They didn't fade or lose their shape. I also like Gap for shorts.

My kids wore uniforms for many years, so I will chime in with our experiences...
Hands down, the best place to purchase polo shirts and boy's pants and shorts was Lands' End. Their polo shirts often lasted through several years or multiple kids. Their interlock polos are so soft and durable. They do not fade (navy was one of our colors). Boys pants used to have double knee fabric and had either a built in belt/elastic waist or adjustable waists with a button system on the inside. Did I mention that their polo shirts were the very best? Our DD appreciated the girl styling on the polos when she got to be a tween and teen.
I am pretty sure that Sears no longer carries any Lands' End clothes. If I remember, they were in the process of spinning Lands' End off...
I also liked the uniform pants and shorts that I purchased for my son from Gap. They held up nearly as well as the Lands' End brand and were a bit more fashion forward when our DS got a bit older. And, Gap has a nice selection of slim pants and shorts with adjustable waists. We had several friends with very slender boys and they always had luck at Gap with their younger boys. The pants from Gap wore like iron too! Uniform pants for girls there were also nice quality, but DD wore the uniform plaid skirt most often, so durability was not as much of an issue. Quality of polo shirts from Gap was variable. Girls polo shirts were not as durable. But, they had the softest white button down shirts!
I disliked the quality and cheap polyester fabric of the WalMart and Kohls brand of uniforms. Polo shirts from Target, Wal-Mark, Old Navy didn't even last a year before they shrunk, faded or stained. Try to stay away from poly and poly blend shirts and pants as they can be really uncomfortable to little kids. Children's Place was mixed quality. Better quality on pants than shirts.
Hope this helps! And best wishes to your little man as he starts school!!

The Sears store in my area has Osh Kosh brand for school uniforms.
Last week all of the stock from last year was on sale. No different than the new stock that is full price this week.
Congrats on the little one starting school. They do grow up fast.

We had good luck with the Izod brand bottoms from jc Penney. You will need to try on in the store to check sizing but then you can order online.

Public school uniforms or Catholic school uniforms? My kids go to Catholic school and I get DD's uniforms and the boys ties from French toast. DS12 is going into 8th grade and has had the same ties since 4th grade, they hold up really well.
Polos, they can only wear white so I get them from Target or Old Navy. Last year I got the ones from Old Navy for $5 a piece. I buy their white button downs from Kohls. Chaps brand. They hold up really well and I can usually get them buy one, get one 1/2 off.
Pants- I hated the ones from French Toast so I bought DS13's from Kohls. They were either Arrow or Chaps. DS12 is really small and he likes a slimmer fit so I get his pants from Nordstrom.
My Sears still has Lands End stuff but it's slim pickings.

I think Lands End has the best quality uniforms.
I also buy from Gap Kids & have been really happy with the way they hold up all year.

Is it possible to find a polo shirt in T-shirt material? DS has to wear white collared shirts and hates the traditional Polo shirt knit.

Good to know on the interlock shirts. I think I will get some of those.
It isn't public or catholic but it is private. My oldest went to a private school but their dress code was a lot looser. You had chapel day with chapel dress and on the other days you could wear jeans but had to wear a collared shirt and no Tshirts. Belt had to be worn and a few other things.
I do have to go to a uniform store for a tie that only they sell but I can get the other items at stores.
Is French Toast an online store or is it a label sold at specific stores? TIA

Aren't you in TX? If so Academy Sports and Outdoors usually has great polo shirts before school starts that wear very very well (Austin brand). Inexpensive too. Actually when we first moved to NC, I would shop for DS when I made business trips back to TX.
I'm not sure you will find the pants there though.

My nephew wears a uniform and SIL swears by the Lands End pants. They held up better than any other brand.

Thank you! I am going to order the shirts from Lands End but go to Pennys to see about shorts. He is pretty tiny and it is hard to tell what size he would need. We have a Penny's close to home.

Lands End definitely has quality products. One thing you have to keep in mind is just how fast kids grow (I know you have older children, so you know what I'm saying). I spent hundreds of dollars on Lands End uniforms when my son was in kindergarten. He grew out of the pants in 2 months. It was ridiculous. I don't have anyone to pass items down to, so at the end of the day, quality isn't quite as important as when I'm shopping for myself - or even my daughter now that she's slowed down a bit. I buy 90% at Penney's and they hold up fine. It also helped when my son went to shorts through most of the year, no matter what the temp. Shorts are a whole lot more forgiving on length than pants. He has to wear pants once a week, and I'm still buying new pants 3-4 times a year, but at least now it's just one pair.

Glade to hear so many great reviews about Lands End pants. I ordered 3 pairs last week for DS. I've had Gymboree and Gap and they both get horrible wash wear.

French toast is online only but they also sell through JCPennys.
Old Navy also sells Blue, khaki and maybe black pants.

My kids wear uniforms as well. Honestly, I get them their basic polos and shorts/skirts at Old Navy. Usually by the time they switch from summer to winter and back to summer uniforms, they've grown and they need replacing. My boys are hard on their shirts, so I just pick up extras from ON when they're on sale at a good price.

We can only order from Land's End or Flynn O'hara. Think we'll go with Land's End from the reviews.

Another vote for Land's End. I've bought a few things from other places, but their stuff seems to always hold up better and look "new" much longer.

We love Lands End shirts! I've never purchased their pants.
Here's a tip: If your little guy is hard on pants, buy a lot. We just went with Old Navy on sale. My DS is really bad about getting holes in the knees of his pants. His K year we got to Feb. and he had holes in almost all of his pants. I went to buy some more and had a hard time finding uniform pants. I had shorts, but it was too cold to start wearing those. He needed just one or two pairs to get him through. There's a whole lot in the stores now, but there won't be come Feb. The next year, I think I bought something like 12 pairs of pants. He went through all but two. Of course, it could be that ON is just more cheaply made. I know how to patch pants, but I'd really rather not do that. I've wondered if the Lands' End pants would hold up better, but I've never gone that route. We don't have a Sears with LE around here and DS really needs to try them on before purchasing.

We like Lands End. We use to get uniforms at Walmart but they don't last as long and aren't as nice and comfortable as Lands End.

PANTS and other bottoms - buy a week's worth (4 or 5 of them) if you can in their CURRENT size, (or next up if current size is getting tight) and if you can afford it, another week's worth in the NEXT size, and maybe one or two in the size after that... just in case. For Teens; the "spares" buy them unhemmed if you can. In the 7th grade I had a height spurt (2.5 in) and my last one (2 in) was in the 9th grade then no more height DD had her height all one year at age 14 and grew (3.75 in) and DS had periodic ones till 11 grade with a last one of 1.5 in.

Another strong vote for Land's End pants. The shirts are not as big a deal for us. Both kids wear hunter green shirts and they grow so fast that I don't need them to last multiple years. But if I buy cheap pants, they are ruined within a month or so. The younger one blows out the knees. The Land's End pants are more expensive but they are totally worth it. They will last until the kid outgrows them rather than the pants wearing out first.
