Any tips to keeping a diaper on a dog in heat? She hates it! Was thinking getting kids underwear to put over it? Otherwise she is outside in her fence or in her crate...she is confused and thinks she's in trouble...it's her first heat:(

I had heard of using boys underwear. You know, the hole for the tail. We had to use diapers on our pup, she went into heat...after being spayed! Such a joy. I would have tried the underwear if I had known that at the time. Good luck.

We had this problem with our sweet, elderly foster guy who was incontinent. Thanks to some Facebook bulldog pages, I saw that doggies with Spina Bifida & other issues that cause incontinence wear suspenders. I found him some in the boy's department at Walmart ---they fit him perfectly & his diaper FINALLY stayed on !.....anddd....they look cute, too Good luck! Sowwy your sweet girl hates it & thinks she's being punished.

Lol aww...my son told me she reached back grabbed a mouth full and yanked it off..lol...then we'd be left with dangling suspenders!

we had a foster that went into heat before I could get all of her appts set up to get her fixed. She was less than a yr old and didnt have a clue what was going on. We have other dogs in our house so I didnt want her dripping all over the floor and furniture, I use the smallest pair of PJ shorts from my kids left overs that I could find. I cut a hole for her tail and we use a big safety pin on the top to tighten them up, I put a reg maxi pad in there ( I bought some at the $ store) and we would change it out a few times a day. It was a pain in the azz to take it off when she went outside and came back in, but after a few days she got used to it. She looked ridiculous , but it worked!

Depending on the size of the dog, you could try a onesie! And stick the pad straight onto the onesie. I think when I did it, I didn't even have to cut a hole for the tail because of the way you could button the bottom. I don't think I ever did it for heat, just piddly puppies lol.

bwife ....awwww....herz looks cute !!! p.s....it killllls me how much pet stores charge for the pads---like you said, I would get the hooman ones wayy cheaper! Thanks! we were not going for cute. I was tired of walking behind her with a wet paper towel cleaning blood off of my hardwood floors. YUCK! I felt sorry for her, the look she would give us when she came back inside from going out without it on, she was pretty pitiful. She was in heat for over 2 weeks, So even though this took some extra mins out of our day.... it was better for all of us in the end. And yes, Doggie Diapers are Expensive! that is why we did not get those and I have never had good luck with getting them to stay on ( we had a senior dog that needed them). I figured I would be better off figuring it out on my own, than spending $20 on 10 diapers that were just going to slide off of her butt.

And there's no reason you can't use human ones! A dog rescue I know does do just that to save money. Or large maxipads for small male dogs. They keep them on the dog by wrapping around with a handmade 4 inch wide quilted strap that secures with Velcro. Any scrap fabric would work for this or you could use fun fabric for the fashion conscious dog.

twoboyzmom.....about her pulling off the diaper and being left with hanging suspenders---LOL! I see how suspenders would NOT have helped! Since we only have bulldogs, I'm so used to the fact that the way they're built, they can't reach anything near that area....(which is also why we bulldog owners have to clean them after pottying_.. When we had our male neutered & female spayed years ago, plus our sweet girl recently had lower abdominal surgery, people suggested we get them cones so that they couldn't lick the area----I explained that they wouldn't be able to.....but my poor babies----they definitely TRIED to !!!

I have a pack of doggie diapers size large - fits 18-23 inch waist. I have been wondering what to do with them, I hated to just throw them out. I'll happily send them (free of charge) to whoever would like to pm me their address.

We had that same issue. I found a tutorial- YouTube I think, but you put a pair of underwear (with a pad on it) on the dog and wrap the waist band around the tail and pin it with a big safety pin. I had cloth diaper pins. It stayed on pretty good. Good luck. It was no fun and we promptly made the appointment to take care of tgat.
