I was reading HGTV magazine recently and there was a blurb saying 25' hoses are the best choice because they're easy to handle. Only thing is, very few 25' hoses are available around here. Only small diameter RV ones. What length garden hose do you prefer? I need to buy one (or two, if they're 25') for the front of our house.
And while we're at it, what kind of garden hose holder do you like? I tried a reel that you could wheel around but it was so cheaply made I returned it and got one of the black wrought iron ones that sticks in the ground. But I've read that some like the ones that look like a big bowl.

25' would be great and easy to handle, but our 3 are all 100'--they need to reach further. The newest one was labelled 'kink resistant', but I swear, it kinks like crazy. The ones in the back yard are on a hanger that attaches to the house and we manually loop it on the hanger. The one in front is coiled and on the ground, behind a half wine barrel planter so it's less noticeable.

Maybe I have been watching too much tv, but I want one (or six) of those hoses you see on tv that expand and contract as the water flows through them. The guy on the commercial has me sold that it is THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO A HOSE. How can it not be?? It contracts to the size of a small worm and magically curls itself up... I am not sure I can live another summer without one.

I have two of the pocket hoses but they leak. I didn't know they made them with better fittings.

The article said it's easier to handle shorter ones and to connect several short ones if you need more reach. I think our backyard hose is at least 100 feet and it's a pain to coil and uncoil every time.

I use one of those curly hoses on the front deck. I got it from QVC when they first came out. It's 50' and I still have and use it. It resides in a horseshoe shaped holder. You just have to not let it cross over itself or you'll end up in a curly tangled mess.
We also have 3 100ft hoses. They are a pain to coil and kink like crazy, even the no kink ones. I live on acreage, perched on the side of a hill. Trying to wind them up when they're all attached is a feat of strength and determination.

Honestly, my number one factor is to buy RV hoses because they are lead free. Many of our plants are flowers, but some are herbs we eat so I want lead free. My favorite hose-holder is the wall mount type.

My garden hose has some age on it - but I know each section was a lot longer than 25'. I always bought the Swan brand - not sure if they are even around, but it was the best garden hose. Very heavy duty. Still going strong for me. I have a large box like garden hose reel. It holds 225' of hose, but I think I squeeze a little more on it. It tracks the hose on the reel, so it always winds right. I had the one on wheels, but it was a hot mess- and way to portable. When you live on the farm - you don't want your good garden hose to be too easy to move. It never comes back, or if it does - I don't want it anymore....LOL This is my hose reel: Spendy - but worth it. I have had it several years. www.walmart.com/ip/Suncast-225-Resin-Wicker-Smart-Track-Hose-Reel/15767697

Our hose was killing me. Black heavy duty hose that left me with black hands after, heavy and hard to manage, but it will not die! I said I was not spending another summer lugging it around the yard. I just ordered this one from Amazon and so far, so good. If it holds up I'll be buying more.
