Today I got a nice new-to-me purse at Salvation Army.
Big. Roomy. Lots of pockets and a strong zipper closure.
Oh, and a passport.
I felt so bad for the lady who left it in there. If it were me, I would be so freaked out.
I mailed it to the address listed on the United States passport website, that tells you were to send a found passport.
So, what have you found in used purses?

Nothing in purses, but I found 3 one dollar bills in a book and $10 dollars in the pocket of a coat. Both were bought at Goodwill.

I've never found anything in any of the thrift store purses I've bought-- the Goodwills I shop at do a good job checking them out. (other than a wadded up Kleenex, or something like that...)
I have found a couple vintage (like, from the 1950s) sales receipts from now-defunct department stores when I've been out estate sale shopping, though.

My husband's work colleague found 190 dollars tucked under the bottom of a Goodwill Vera Bradley bag when she removed the bottom liner to wash it.
Me? Usually used Kleenex or a wayward Crayon.

If it has soft surfaces and can't be thrown in the washing machine, I can't buy it from the thrift store. I'm so grossed out at the thought of finding a wadded up tissue in there. All I can think of is the dirt and grime of someone else in the bottom of that purse. I freak out about bed bugs too. My own issues, I know.

Not in a purse, but a book I bought at Goodwill had someone's paycheck stub tucked in like it had been used as a bookmark. He's lucky I'm not dishonest because it had his full social security number on it.

Bought a "brand new never worn still on the hanger" leather jacket on eBay. Had a pair of earrings in one pocket and a bunch of used kleenex in the other pocket. Still on the hanger, though.

I love buying purses at thrift stores that I could never afford retail! Besides the usual wrappers, pony tail holders, and receipts, I've found money ($5 and $20 bills), pens (including a cool pen from Club 33 at Disneyland), and keys - 3 sets of keys! On the flip side, I pulled an old fanny pack out of our goodwill bag just before it went out the door because we were having a garage sale and I thought I'd use it to keep change during the sale. Inside I found 2 wadded up $100 bills!!! I guess the last time it was used was a vacation while I married because that's the only time exH or I would have ever carried $100 bills in a fanny pack. Someone at Goodwill almost had the surprise of their life.

Nothing in a purse I've purchased, but while working a fundraiser yard sale for our local animal shelter, we had to clean out the purses before selling them. One of my fellow volunteers found a small vial of cocaine in her stack of bags. No way to determine where the bag came from, so we called the police to come and take it away.

This reminds me of that Border Security show. After seeing passengers stand there and have all of their belongings searched or being frisked due to trace amounts of a drug showing up on their luggage, I told DH we will never ever buy luggage second hand, LOL! I'm not getting frisked for someone else's left behind traces of cocaine! Apparently the same thinking can be applied to purses.

My mom found three hundred dollars in the bottom of a drawstring bag full of old hair curlers that she got for a quarter at a thrift store.

I feel really unlucky now, because I've never found anything 'extra' in the thriftstore-purchases I've made. They must have thorough people checking things out here before putting them in the shop.

I come across cases of bedbugs spread that way all the time. I'm to the point now where I'm afraid to get furniture delivered if the store also does removal of the old items especially mattresses.
