Terror attack in Tel Aviv
I hope that Israel hunts down and kills all those connected with Hamas. They certainly are NOT doing the Palestinians living in Israel any favors because the response is predictable and understandable.

From the article - ""This is a country, which over the course of its 68-year history, has grown tragically accustomed to these types of attacks,"
I think this is what I hate the most about this. I was thinking it before I got near the quote. Israel deserves to be at peace but unfortunately her neighbors do not see it that way.
When terror visits the US it is a truly terrible thing. But eventually we go back to some semblance of overall security and safety. Terror doesn't visit Israel, it permeates.
I am so so sorry.

But eventually we go back to some semblance of overall security and safety. Terror doesn't visit Israel, it permeates. I am so so sorry. Every time I go to Israel, I note (but am not offended by) the metal detectors you have to pass through going into restaurants and shopping malls. The Sbarro's (yes, the pizza chain) in Jerusalem where there wasn't only a metal detector, but an armed guard at the door, because it had been a bombing site years ago. The young army kids (late teens and 20s) patrolling the streets in military khaki and M-16's slung over their shoulders. Public busses where now the glass goes down to foot level, so it is easy to see all from the outside, and having military scan both the outside and inside of busses at regular bus stops. We complain here about waiting at airports to go through screening, but we, as a nation, have no idea what it truly is to live as day-to-day targets of terrorism. I fervently wish for an end to terrorism.

I agree with everything you wrote Elaine. I follow the news there and have been horrified and saddened over all the violence that occurs there daily. It's constant, undeniable and amazes me the resilience and bravery the Israelis have.

My niece was murdered by a terrorist while waiting for a ride home in November 2014. It was the SECOND time she had been a victim of a terrorist attack having survived a stabbing attack. My other nieces and nephews who live in Jerusalem live in fear but the fear has become such a part of daily life that they don't even realise it until they come here and it is absent.
As Golda Meir said: "Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us" and unfortunately that time is not now.

I think of that Golda Meir quote a lot. And so hope it may happen in my lifetime, but fear it won't.
Scrappinghappy- I remember your niece, but want to say again how sorry I am.

I haven't seen the news for a couple of days so missed this. Just terrible. I have cousins in Tel Aviv and just don't know how they cope with all these attacks.

Well said elaine. I remember when it happened scrappinghappy and have heard reports since of similar attacks. I've said a silent prayer for those who senselessly lost their lives including your niece.

My dd has a friend who was in the market the night before, pretty much exactly 24 hours before. We complain here about waiting at airports to go through screening, but we, as a nation, have no idea what it truly is to live as day-to-day targets of terrorism. This is the truth. We have no idea. I remember thinking in the days after 9/11 that we would have to learn to live like those who live in Israel. That security for EVERYTHING would rise to Israeli levels. Did not anticipate the somewhat silly reactionary face value security that we have in our airports (the shoe business for example). Was in Ohio and dd's friend said something about security at the statehouse. I said "what security?" You can park right underneath it. If they were really concerned, they would have moved the parking away from the building, just like there are certain places in NYC where you can no longer park or even drive. We are still so innocent and, frankly clueless. Hugs to you scraphappy. Such a tragic loss and tragic to know that this continues to happen. When it happens in Israel, the world pays less attention. It's no longer shocking to those with no or little attachment because it has sadly become normal. How in the world does death and destruction ever become normal?
