For those of you have read my other home reno posts...I am FINALLY ready to start on my kitchen cabinets, and I am so nervous! (I am painting them white over the 90s orange-y oak). Yesterday, I scrubbed them clean, this morning, I took them off the hinges, and I am getting ready to start sanding. I am hoping by later today, I'll be ready to put on a coat of primer.
Did I say I'm nervous?? I am! I am tired of them the way they are, but if I screw them up...I'm screwed because I can't afford new cabinets. I have read everything I can possibly read about painting cabinets, and I'm ready, but still...
Just for fun... This is what my kitchen used to look like (minus the SS fridge...we now have a white one)
This is what it looks like right now:
Wish me luck!

My girlfriend painted hers last summer. They look great! I'm sure yours will turn out wonderful too. Can't wait to see a picture.

Good luck! We had a white kitchen with green walls in our last house and I loved it. We painted our cabinets there, but had them professionally done. So I don't know much about the process. But, loved the finished work.

You can totally do this. Just go slowly and be thorough. I did the cabinets in our kitchen two houses ago and they turned out great. If I can do it, anyone can.
White cabinets are going to look great with that green. Do you mind sharing the name of that color? I really like it.

I think that's going to look great once you're done. I agree with others who have said that green will look great with white cabinets. Please do share the 'after' pics. How long do you expect the process to take?
I have similar cabinets and would love to paint them white but I'm SCARED to do it myself. I'm thinking I might start small and paint the cabinets in our downstairs bathroom.

We painted ours about 10 years ago (different house in a different state). They went from very dark wood to painted white. The people we bought the house from didn't think they'd like how it turned out, but they really loved it!

We just did a bathroom reno and painted our plain wood cabinets white. We used a sprayer, so we got a really smooth finish. My best advice to you is to get a really good paint-don't skimp and get cheap stuff. Good luck and can't wait to see the after pictures!!

It is Behr Fresh Artichoke. It is a bit darker than those photos show, but not much.
Wow, this is quite a project. Pretty much everything I read said prep work is the worst, but don't skip on it. That is so right. Yesterday, I cleaned them good (or so I thought!), and I spent a couple of hours sanding them this morning. Some areas weren't as clean as I had thought and kind of "gummed up" when I sanded, so I took some steel wool to a few areas. I also have vacuumed them, cleaned them with a tack cloth, and then used a de-glosser. They look completely awful and ugly right now, and I am finally ready to put the first coat of primer on them. The worst part so far was actually trying to get them off the dang hinges. Those screws did NOT want to come out, and I spent almost 2 hours doing just that. What a job! I hope I love them for as much work as this has been. I'm very glad my kitchen isn't very big.
I did buy good paint. I am using Benjamin Moore Advance satin paint and primer. I read a lot of reviews, so I hope I picked the right one.
I will definitely show the finished product! Hopefully, that will be sometime this year. My whole downstairs is still torn apart, but my husband thinks he may be able to start laying the floor in the dining room and office next week.

Good luck to you! What an awesome project! I gotta say, your paint colors on the walls are already a huge improvement! I love the blue wall in the back ground & I love the green in the kitchen area! The white cabinets will look so great! Can't wait to see it finished.

Good luck. I've thought about doing this but it's all the preparation that's putting me off doing it. I look forward to seeing your finished kitchen.

LOL I really loved the yellow that was in the kitchen, so much so that I put it in the dining room and down the hall. I love it there, too. My favorite room so far is the blue room. It used to be a cranberry red, and I have always really liked it, but it was time for a change. The white bottom of the blue room will have picture frame molding once my husband can do things again. (He broke his arm a month ago).

Good luck. I've thought about doing this but it's all the preparation that's putting me off doing it. I look forward to seeing your finished kitchen. Yeah, the prep has been a bi!ch. I was in tears and cursing earlier as I struggled to remove the hinges and then sanded those doors in the 500 degree heat we are having this week. A Leinenkugal Grapefruit Shandy or two did help.
Right now, I am in "As God is my witness, I will never paint cabinets again mode!" But, I may feel differently when they are finished and my kitchen looks awesome.

I've wanted to do this for years, but I wasn't motivated until we decided to put wood floors through the whole downstairs. I couldn't stand the thought of pretty new floors with those cabinets.

LOL Sorry to hear about your husbands arm, I wish him a speedy recovery.

Haha yes I know that mode, I said exactly the same thing last time we moved house.
I'm sure it will look awesome and you never know it might just spur me onto actually doing mine.
