That is so terribly sad.
And to think her poor children will grow up without her all due to senseless violence. Awful.

What is an MP? And what do they mean by holding surgeries?

I saw multiple tweets earlier about the attack, and just now that she had passed. I am so sorry to you all to have been touched by this senseless violence. I didn't see if they were blaming it on her stance in the upcoming vote, but with it so close, you can't help but wonder.

What is an MP? And what do they mean by holding surgeries? An MP is a Member of Parliament - roughly equivalent to a US Representative. Holding surgeries means they have open hours where constituents can come and meet with the MP and discuss issues they think he/she can help with.

What is an MP? And what do they mean by holding surgeries? I just googled MP as well, I thought it had something to do with police. I do know what Member of parliament is, I didn't realize that was an abbreviation that was used. Such a tragic loss.

For example, having an appendix removed.

What do you call operations? For example, having an appendix removed. I'm not English - my 'native' brand of English is Australian - but I would say having an operation or having surgery. Surgery is also used in England and Australia to refer to a doctor's office - the sign outside would say surgery, and it would likely be what the rceptionist would say when answering the phone.

In my area, we use surgery rather than operation. So, the articles use of surgery was confusing. Thank you for the information.
