No, you're not the only one who would be curious.
If you know them, why not go over and see if you can help in some way?

Nope, not alone. I do it all the time. I am refraining from getting a police scanner because that would be crazy, right? there are police scanner apps you can get for your phone...

I use a scanner app on my phone. 5-0 Radio. This is not something I wanted to know! Now I'm going to be that person!

You are perfectly normal to wonder what is happening.
For some reason, whoever lives in the house across the street from us is our neighborhood Mrs. Kravitz. They always know everything!

Yeah every neighbor on our street would be over there. But then again we are so far away from any 1st responders that a neighbor who needed help would have called 911 and then called a neighbor and it would snowball from there. A couple of years ago my across the street neighbor had a fire in the chimney. All the neighbors that the fire almost out before the fire truck showed up!

So something awful happened at my neighbors' house. There are police cars and first responders all over out there. But no ambulance. And even though my heart is breaking for them, the fact that I don't know what happened is making me wild. I'm surreptitiously peeking out my window every 10 minutes and my brain is racing trying to figure things out. I'm also annoyed with myself for even being that curious about it. It's obviously something very bad, as in I think the husband may have died. But my inner Mrs. Kravitz can't let it go. I did have enough tact to not go over and ask. That's something right? Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this. Oh, I admit it. Me, too. Our elderly neighbor was taken to the ER in an ambulance on New Year's Eve. Watched the whole thing go down. It was so sad. I didn't want to go over and get all up in their business, but I really like them and was so sad to think that something awful was happening. He's okay, luckily! Also, the people across the street had an incident where their kid locked himself in their minivan in the garage in his underpants (garage door open) and was screaming and the mom was trying to get him out. (Like, he INTENTIONALLY wouldn't come out, not that he accidentally locked himself in). SaveSave

Now I'm being Mrs. Kravitz! So is it an older man whose adult kids found him at home? oh gosh no. It's worse. The oldest is 15 and the youngest is five. He's a step dad in his thirties. He and my neighbor have been together a couple of years. Our neighbor committed suicide right before we traveled to my in-laws for Christmas and I had no idea until we came home and his obituary was in the paper. I felt like a horrible neighbor for not going to the funeral or visitation because the day I saw it, the funeral was happening right then. It didn't happen in the house, but they immediately moved out and I kept peeking outside hoping to catch her at her house while she moved out so I could just talk to her. I know what you mean, not close but you feel like you have to do something.

So it was suicide. He hung himself and the 15 year old found him. I think I need to make them a cheesecake.

Oh heck no. In my neighborhood, everyone who is awake/home/alive will come over to see what's going on and within 15 minutes, everyone who is asleep or gone will have gotten a phone call or text. a true "crime watch" area!!!

I know what you mean, not close but you feel like you have to do something. I was at a funeral like that today actually. My parent's neighbour commited suicide last Friday by hanging himself in the garage. His wife came home from being away all day, opened up the garagedoor and saw him hanging there. My mother had seen the ambulance come in and went to talk to the widow. He had been sick (mind and body) for a while, and mom thought he might have had some (physical) issues the ambulance arrived. Unfortunatly he had been there for hours, and there wasn't any hope of saving him. Nosy neighbour? Yeah, maybe. But we care. We ask what's happening because we want to see if we can offer any type of support.

I love the scanner app. When I can't get to sleep it puts me out. Rarely is it so exciting that I can't sleep. I did use it on a walk once when a cop went blasting by me in our very quiet neighborhood. They had some nogoodniks cornered on a block after a high speed chase. It was very entertaining. My city/county police is always in the top 10 on the 5-0 app.

Nope, you are not alone! We had something simular. Cops over at the neighbor's one night, ambulance and fire truck another night. We assumed it had something to do with son. One morning on my early dog walk, this one was about 4am, there were no less than 7 different cop cars over there. Figured out the husband passed away, not sure if he was a retired cop or if she works for the police department, the only explanation we can come up with for all the cop cars.
