Just got my new computer last night and set it up... I'd heard from a lot of people that there was a lot of hate towards windows 10 so it made me a little nervous having to make a "big" switch (I was still on windows 7. ) I'm not sure what all the fuss is about? Why do people hate it? Doesn't seem that hard to navigate and i'm not that computer savvy.
I also hear the first thing people do is download another browser because no one likes Microsoft edge....i'm not sure why, but seems ok to me.
It's funny the stories you hear and when you finally change, you wonder what all the fuss was about.
On another note, computer has MacAfee loaded on it. Anyone want to give opinions? I hear it's a good option, but haven't used it in years. Anything else I need to download to make sure i'm inundated with spyware/virus'?

I think they are both fine personally. Although I prefer Chrome, I have no issues with Edge. The fuss seems to stem from people who upgraded and it made their computers wonky. That did not happen to me, and I actually prefer MS 10 over 8. I think 10 is very similar to 7.
That being said, every time someone changes an OS, whether it is Microsoft, Apple, whatever, people complain. It is human nature to resist change.
As for MacAfee, I hate it, and it's companion Norton. I think they are both bloated. I use AVG.

I am not a great lover of Microsoft Edge. It keeps freezing and we have to go through a performance of deleting cookies and browsing history.

I am a Chrome user. So many nice features and it runs smooth.
I would not install the McAfee. But I am guessing you probably already have. I also prefer AVG (free) or AVAST (also free).
Don't have two AV programs installed and running at the same time, if you decide to dump McAfee.

I wouldn't use Microsoft Edge, but I think Windows 10 when it is the original operating system, us fine

I haven't upgraded but I've done a lot of reading about upgrading. I think the issue is upgrading your existing OS to to 10. If you purchase it already loaded it works well. The problem (that I read) is that some older programs and hardware aren't compatible with 10. So people have issues and complain that 10 is awful and doesn't work properly. I also read that if your system is older than 2012 it's best to either not upgrade or purchase a new system. I don't know if this is true or not, but I am heeding the warning and sticking with 7.
One other thing I read about Win 10 is the ability for MS to spy or track you. And you can't disable it.
For virus software I used the free version of Avast! for years, but recently switched to a paid version of Kaspersky. DH uses the free version of AVG. For Malware, there is a free version of Malwarebytes that I run weekly. The free version is a manual start, the paid version runs automatically. I do not like McAfee or Norton.
For browers, I have never used MS Edge. I use both Firefox and Chrome.

I have no problems with windows 10 operating system but I don't use Edge. I did when I first had my new laptop but on the first auto update it wiped all my bookmarks/favourites out. A known problem at the time according to google so I wasn't the only one. I went back to using chrome and I haven't used edge since.

I use multiple browsers....Edge goes into "Not responding" once in a while that's annoying, so then I'll switch to Chrome or Explorer. Windows 10 fixed a bunch of crap that I was dealing with, so no complaints from me.

I find Edge to be slow and prone to freezing issues. Chrome works smoothly and quickly.
I upgraded my laptop to Win10 and have had no issues with it. I have a Windows phone and it's kind of nice having my phone and laptop synced.

I have windows 8.1 on my work computer and I LOVE it! I'm also not sure what the hate is about. Honestly, I've been a pretty die-hard OSX person for almost 20 years now and I think I'm starting to like windows 8 better than osX (i'm on El Capitan on my home laptop).
I don't use microsoft edge though (I honestly didn't even know what it was until this thread) - my work computer came with chrome installed and I use that and sometimes firefox developer edition. Those work well for me.

As others have expressed here, Windows 10 is fine, Edge seems to be unreliable at times. I use the old IE, Chrome, and Firefox and often have all 3 open.
ESET is our current standard for anti-virus, and you can frequently find deals for it on DealNews.com, but if you do decide to change antivirus software you should always use a removal tool to get the old one off before installing the new one in order to ensure proper operation.

I just upgraded my almost 4 year old laptop a couple of weekends ago. I was using Win 10 at work for almost a year so I wasn't worried about.
Upgrade was smooth and easy. It does tell you ahead of time what programs/hardware won't be compatible. I had one thing is all, and it was no big deal.
It's actually made my computer work faster/better.
I rarely use Edge. I prefer Chrome.
