DH and I have been discussing what it is to Binge Watch a TV show. I feel it is when you sit and watch an entire season in one sitting. I mean that is your plan for the entire day/night is to do nothing but to keep watching an episode, one right after the other.
DH thinks binge watching is watching only one show at a time. We watch 2 maybe 3 episodes of a show each night depending upon what else we have going on. We will watch and episode then do some things. Then before bed we will watch another episode, but because we are only watching this show, he thinks we are binge watching.
What is your definition of binge watching?

What is your definition of binge watching? When I have binge watched anything, it was episode after episode after episode. An all day thing, with only pauses to go to the bathroom and eat. LOL.

I remember hearing a discussion of this on the radio not long ago, and the concensus was that 5 or more episodes in a row defined binging. I agree with that.

I never really thought about what number of episodes meant a "binge". But, last year in October when my dh traveled overseas for three weeks, and my ds had just moved to Georgia, and my dd was at college, and I decided not to sub for a few days and to take no on-call hours at the hospital for those same days, and I stocked up on things I like to eat... and all that happened right after I'd discovered "Criminal Minds" and that there were TEN seasons if it on Netflix streaming.... Well, that was a binge.

I think watching one or two episodes in a row is not binge watching.
For me it is watching one show and nothing else until you have completed the season or series.

for me, watching 2 or 3 episodes almost every night still counts as binge watching. that's what DH and I are doing now with SOA. but maybe it feels more like a binge because whenever we have free time at night, that's what we're doing. so it feels more "all-consuming" lol.

I agree. I figure most shows air once a week, so if you're watching 2 or 3 episodes a night until done you're potentially watching at 20 times the typical rate, which definitely counts as binge watching in my view.

My dh and I will watch 3 or 4 episodes back to back for 3 or 4 nights in a row until we have finished the season...we consider that binge watching.

When DH & I binge watched Breaking Bad, we watched 3 or 4 episodes in one sitting. We're not college students so we really didn't have the luxury of time to watch a whole season in one sitting, and anyway, I wouldn't have wanted to because the show was so intense and I needed time to process it. I've watched a whole season of 30-minute Amazon series, but obviously that takes less time.

I'd say that Netflix itself defines binge watching when it pauses the third episode and asks if you are sure you want to keep watching. I love the irony of Netflix shaming you for being a couch potato!
Personally, I'd say that it's the 4th (hour long) episode that puts you over into binge watching. Otherwise, it's just a long night of TV. Like in the old days on Thursday nights when you would start with Friends at 8 pm and ER would end at 11 pm.

When you say, 'one more episode' and are still sitting there three episodes later.

So mostly people think it's a combination of both, watching two or more episodes in one sitting of the same TV show.

I would say binge watching a show is when it feels like a job (ha!) and primarily watch that one show until I get through all the seasons.

We rarely watch 2 episodes on a row. We watch one then will do other things for a while, make and eat supper, clean up something etc. Now this morning we just watch 4 episodes of Scrubs in a row while I had my coffee and folded some clothes. So that may count as binge watching.
I think the "all consuming" aspect of it matters also. If we did not get to watch it one night it would be no big deal.

I'll go with watching an entire season/series in one sitting because, by that definition, I have never binge watched anything . I have watched a couple of episodes, then one more, then weighed that fact that it is 1:30 and I have to be up at 6, and decided to just watch one more. I think when you plan your life around getting to the next episode, you are binge watching. If you are just making your way through an entire series when you have the time, that is not binge watching.

Bing watching is what I am about to do with Orange is the New Black. Can't wait to get into it today.

It's just sitting there watching episode after episode of the same show. Not stopping to do something else in between episodes.

For me, binge watching is viewing a couple of episodes each day in succession, day after day, rather than taking an entire season to watch a show.
I could never sit all day and do nothing but watch tv, so that definitely would never be for me. I'm too much of a fidget.

I would say binge watching a show is when it feels like a job (ha!) I was watching a Korean drama on hulu recently (fun time travel romance called Queen Inhyun's Man, also translated as Queen and I), and I was about halfway through when I noticed that hulu was telling me it was going to expire in a few days. Suddenly there was a deadline! Pressure! Stress! Aaaaaggghhh! I did finish in time and I did enjoy it, but yeah, there were moments when it felt like an obligation.

Episode after episode - usually I can knock out a season if I'm scrapbooking. Couple of weeks ago I watched the new French series on Netflix - got it all done, start to finish. I hate cliffhangers - and it had a big one. And it was all in French with subtitles. Didn't care - it was a good story - and rather nice to listen to! LOL

Binge watching is watching the entire season of Orange Is the New Black the day it came out or that weekend.

We like to record a full season of many shows (Amazing Race, Survivor, etc) and watch the episodes back to back until it is finished. Sometimes we have time for 2. Sometimes more. I call that binge watching. Concentrating on one series and watching the episodeshow 2 or more at a sitting.
