Both my kids are working at places that have a uniform. DD was issued a shirt when she started working and they will give her a new one after a year. She had the option to buy an extra for $10 which she did. Pants just have to be black or khaki, so that part is easy, she wears mostly athletic pants and has multiple pairs. DS's uniform includes a shirt, pants, belt & shoes. They only issue one set. He asked about getting at least a second shirt and was told he had to work for at least 6 weeks before he could get one. I hate that they are doing laundry every night . Is this normal? I haven't worn a uniform in 30 years but we were always issued multiple sets.

Unless they come home stained or smelly you shouldn't have to wash their clothes every night. They should wear undershirts and deodorant so they can get at least two wears out of the uniform.

It's normal. I am sure the six week period for your DS's employer is because a lot of people quit before then. DS has had two uniform sets of pants and shirt for his job, and gets promotional shirts from time to time. He washes his uniform after each shift.

You'd be surprised at how costly uniforms/shirts are if you have lots of turnover. Especially nice shirts (like Under Armour brand). We used to give one and then the employee could buy more at cost if they wanted.
Agree with others...it does depend on the type of work whether they need to be washed nightly.

16 year old dd received 2 shirts and a hat and has to wear her own black pants and non skid shoes. We are. Wear-clothes-more-than-once-if-you-can family so not working and ever day and having two shirts has been fine. One shirt would be harder.

If they work with food there's (most likely) no way they'd be able to get more than one wear out of them before washing. My DD worked at a mexican place similar in style to Subway and she reeked of grease after every shift. Even after washing the clothes still smelled like it. She had to wash them by themselves or it would make her other clothes smell too. Not very economical to do but she didn't really have a choice. And yes, they only gave her one shirt and one hat, she could buy another but chose not to. SaveSave

So far the shirts aren't passing the smell test for multiple wears . They do both wear deodorant and DD wears a tank top under hers. SaveSave

Yea, this is totally normal. can you imagine if the Co's were giving out 2 shirts to every person that worked, and they only last like 3 wks? My dd worked BK one year, and they even wanted the shirts back?!! and she worked there 2 hellish summers. HA

Where my DD works they no longer issue the nice shirt to new employees, they get a cheaper t-shirt for the first three months before being issued the good shirt. What I do like is they allowed her to buy a second shirt. Occassionally she works until 11 and then is back the next morning at 7 and couldn't stand the thought of not having a fresh shirt. DS does have to return his uniform if/when he leaves. I haven't looked at his paperwork, but willing to bet they charge employees that don't return them. SaveSave

The extra $10 would be worth the hassle for me. My son works a physical job and is often on the ground under vehicles. No way could he go two days in a row. Thankfully he has been doing his laundry since he was seven and I don't even think about it.

My son has two work shorts for his job. Even with those two I am thinking of him buying more so he has enough to go 5 days without doing laundry.

My son works at a private golf club. They are issued 3 shirts, a light jacket and a hat. They are Under Armour and they deduct half the cost out of his first pay. They changed colours from his first year to his second so he couldn't wear the first year ones again. But this year is the same colour as last year. He still had to buy the new shirts but now he has 6 and he works 12 days on, 2 days off. He can wear any tan coloured pants or shorts.
We have uniform shirts where I work as well. We are given one free one a year. Plus I work get another different shirt each year for a different job in the same company. Co-worker friends who have left the job have given me their shirts, so I have enough to go about 4 or 5 weeks before I run out. (I have worked for the company for 10 years.) We just wear black pants with the uniform shirt.
