Our office is on the corner of a brick building. It gets SO HOT in here. Right now I have vertical blinds on them which are crap. because vertical blinds are crap!
I need a solution for these windows. Here are some factors:
1. Windows are wide (about 6') and short (about 4') 2. Southern and Western facing windows 3. Our dogs come to work with us and they like to get up in the south window which is the parking lot side, not the street side so it's no big deal to us. It's not a display window. 4. I want it to be one piece, not two because the dogs will get between the crack and break or tear up whatever's there.
I need something that will roll up and down, preferably a fabric maybe. Have a liner so it stays cooler inside. I HATE those bamboo rolling things. They are so ugly and the dogs are just going to break them. Right now they like to get between the window and the verticals (very wide sill) and it screws up the blinds. I'm surprised they still work.
Any suggestions? I'm not a very good curtain person.

Check into shade cloth type roller blinds-like you see in restaurants.

That's what I was thinking of-solar shades.

You can also have a film applied to them - 3M makes some good ones. We had them installed on several of our south-facing windows, and those rooms are much more comfortable now. We also have a grocery store with huge windows, and the film on those makes a tremendous difference. Then you could also add blinds or shades.

That's what I'd get as well if you get a lot of sun.

Roman shades with the backing material that insulating fabric. Will also keep heat in in the winter.
Now you can actually buy the rings already on a fabric tape instead of having to hand sew every ring on the back by hand.

A rolling solar shade made of mesh fabric can block a lot of heat. Be sure to choose a dark color as this will block the most sun. They should have ratings on them that tell you how much sun is blocked. I used to sell Hunter Douglas and they carried them. Look for a window treatment business in your area that does commercial work.
I would also look into solar window film. Vista by CP Films is an excellent product. Again there are various ones for different amounts of heat and light you want to block. All Vista films block your UV. You may find that the film is all you need. Professional installation here is key. You don't want a DIY film job.
