My boys talked me into buying a couple of containers of fresh currants today at the Farmer's Market. They are beautiful! They are also very tart, so will not be consumed without some sort of preparation.
Does anyone here cook with fresh currants? What is your favorite way to prepare them?

I always ate them fresh off the bushes my grandmother grew in our backyard! I guess you could make a jam out of them or maybe some sort of crumble.

DH's family makes currant relish. similar to jam. I'll have to start looking at them in the farmers market.

I found a recipe online for currant crumble that I will try. I would love to make jam, but the recipes call for twice as many as I bought. At $5 per pint, that would be pricey jam!

Deathly allergic to currants, no help here!! Yikes! So sorry! I ended up making two batches of Red Currant Yogurt Cakes since I also have yummy homemade yogurt in the fridge. They are cooling now and some will make it into the lunches I'm packing for a fishing outing tomorrow.
