I have attended concerts there but I live in Denver so I am not sure where to recommend. It is right on the outer edge of downtown, which has ample hotels. As for buying tickets, you generally need to go through who is selling them. I have gone to the Pepsi Center ot buy tickets in person because you avoid lots of fees but if you live out of state that isn't really an option. I bet another Pea or two might be able to recommend hotels.
Which concert? Try to avoid the brokers with their ridiculous fees.

Not only have I gone to concerts, hockey games and others, I worked there as security when it first opened.
Pepsi center is on speer and I-25.
There are plenty of hotels in downtown Denver, but they aren't cheap and almost all of them require you to pay you to park.
Are you wanting to walk to the great from the hotel?
Which concert?

I saw Fleetwood Mac there. Took the mall tram and walked. I'm trying to remember the hotel; very nice, valet parking, and really good bathroom lighting! A couple blocks north (?) of the walking mall. Definitely a splurge for us, but less than $200 a night.
ETA: Try to get tickets through the Pepsi Center's ticketing. I had to use stub hub and pay for scalper-sized tickets.

I will add that I have been able to get some pretty fair deals through Flashseats. Some people discover they can't attend and are simply trying to sell through a safe spot. There are also the otjers that would love to rake ypou over the coals if you allow it. I would definitely check there also.

I saw Florence and the Machine there a few weeks ago. We got lucky and had free tickets to a suite from a friend's husband. I haven't attended in regular seats, though I have been to a hockey game before. Seats are your typical hard plastic, floor is concrete. You do have to pay to park in the lot--$10 I think? So if you're staying close you may want to walk, bus or Uber it.

I've been to several events/concerts there. There's a light rail station for Pepsi Center/Elitch Gardens, so you could stay somewhere other than right down there and take the light rail if you wanted to. If you tend to fly Southwest Airlines, you can try to get your concert tickets through Scorebig.com and get Southwest Rapid Reward points if you're signed up. In April, I stayed at an Aloft Hotel, and it was nice. I was at the one out by DIA, but they have one downtown too.

Take the light rail and get a nicer hotel a little further away. I live about an hour away, so we have never stayed anywhere near the Pepsi Center. The city has some Embassy Suites around and those are usually decent for the money.
