The only time I have ever used it was to make some kind of pickle - mustard pickles I think. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help.

I use it to season a couple different dishes I make that are chicken based, with diced peppers, carrots, onions, whatever I have/feel like etc and a grain mixed in (usually either farro, wheatberries or brown rice.) Recently I've seen turmeric tea from Numi Teas and I signed up for a free sample because I'm curious about it, too. Other than that, I'll be watching this thread too to see what the creative people here are making with it!

I've just been reading about the benefits of tumeric. To make it effective, it must be combined with black pepper. While you using it food is good, you need much more than an average meal would provide to make it beneficial. There are several brands of pills on the market these days.
The main benefit is inflammation/pain from what I've read. Some articles also say it's good for diabetes management but others say it could lower your blood sugar too much. In addition, there are some drugs that don't work well with large doses of tumeric-like blood thinners. I would discuss the use of it with your doctor.
As for recipes, i add some to chicken or pork breading, chilis, and curries.

I take it in pill form. They have them at Sams club.

I tried the pill form and got terrible heartburn. I'm not a spicy food eater so that might be why.
Turmeric is delicious with chicken salad or baked chicken and raisins.

I have RA and my rheumatologist suggested I take tumeric because I can no longer tolerate NSAIDs. I take it in capsule form - it seems to help, along with the other meds I take. My DH has OA and also takes it, he's seen an improvement too.

I tried the pill form and it gave me nausea. Now I just try to add it to any food I cook that the flavor blends - especially chicken and stir fry. I've also added it to rice when I make it with chicken stock. So good!
I've been reading about turmeric milk or tea, but I worry it will make me feel queasy like the pills.

Ok, here's the recipe that made me buy and love turmeric. I've made it a number of times, everyone raves about it - it's delicious! I think it's the combo of turmeric and lemongrass, and we add more garlic than called for to every recipe. Cold Fighting Couscous Chicken Soup

I've used turmeric for years, long before they discovered any actual health benefits to it. If you want to actually cook with it (as opposed to taking pills or whatever), it's a common spice in curries and in many Indian dishes. It's the spice that gives many curries that characteristic orange/yellow color.

it can interfere with certain medications (especially blood thinners) so you might want to check with doctor before supplementing. that said, I take mega food turmeric powder-I just stir a little scoop in with some grapefruit juice

I have Osteo arthritis I take capsules at lunch time and I think they help more than the ibuprofen. Make sure you take them with food and they should include black pepper to digest right. DO NOT take if on blood thinners

I use turmeric is a chicken and rice dish. I didn't like the dish at first. The turmeric has a weird flavor. However, there is something in it that makes me crave it.
It stains like mad, too.
I would use it more often if I found recipes that included it. As, it is supposed to help with pain. I take turmeric capsules. Still couldn't say if it helps or not.

oh how I wish I could try it for the arthritis and fibro pain..but I'm on a blood thinner and have been told not to ... and I have heard it works, which makes me even more sad. I can't have anything that might actually work for this pain,so I just have to live with it.
