... that you seem powerless to stop yourself from clipping out of newspapers and magazines, sitting in a box or on your counter or something, taunting you because you know that you are never, ever going to get around to making 99.99% of them?
It's one of those habits I need to stop. I know that I have reached the point in my cooking lifecycle where I mostly have no interest in any recipe that contains more than three or four ingredients. And usually if I want to try something new I just Google the directions for ingredients I want to use, I don't sort through the pile. I keep saying I'm going to march over to that pile and just throw it in the trash but I guess hope springs eternal!
Does anyone else do this?

Yup Well, sort of. My DD is a great organiser so one summer holiday a while ago she got a big folder, made categories and filed everything in clear sleeves....and I do use a fair few of them. But I also have a stack sitting on top of the folder that haven't been filed. I might delegate that job to he at the weekend

YEs the first half of this year I was borrowing cookbooks from the library and working my way through them. Then I Xeroxed my favorite recipes and put them all in a binder with tabs divided by cookbook. Now I have never gone back to it. I just go to my board on pinterest to find something new to make. I don't know if it's because I copied the recipes in b&w and I'm a visual person?

Of course I do - doesn't everyone? Isn't it like scrapbook supplies, or yarn - she who dies with the most stash wins?

I used to but I went through the stack, googled the recipes and pinned them to my Pinterest recipe boards and tossed the paper. Now whenever I find a recipe in a magazine or cookbook, I google it online.

Yes! My boss and I exchange recipes all the time and I have a big pile of them in my basket but then I forget which ones I have. It's not uncommon for me to have 2-3 copies of the same recipe that I have never made before!

I do, I do, I do!! Although mine are loosely stuffed inside a three-ring-binder that lives in the cabinet next to the stove... (it gets to be a bit of a booby-trap, to pull that binder off the shelf, lol).
I sort through that binder once a year to find my sweet potato casserole recipe and the recipe for the roast duck, but other than that, I don't ever make any of those recipes. Yet I'm also powerless to throw them away!!

I broke the habit with our last move when I realized that I had way more recipes than I could use in a life time and tossed it all with no regrets.
I did have them organized in binders by that time. When I sorted them I discovered that I'd clipped the same recipe twice from a magazine that had repeated it about 5 (?) years apart.

I don't know if it's because I copied the recipes in b&w and I'm a visual person? That's an interesting point, I love Pinterest for craft and decorating ideas, but I never think of it for recipes, I wonder why? The visual part is appealing...but I guess I prefer text for recipes. Case in point, I get annoyed when there is a recipe on a blog and I have to scroll through all these pictures of someone sautéing onions and whatnot. I was doing really well keeping up with my tabbed binders! I would ONLY put recipes in the binder that I had tried and really loved, with my notes and comments all over them. I still refer to the binders often, but it's been a long time since I added anything new to them.

Nope. I don't really cook much. I do like to bake but I tend to just Google recipes.

Yes. And I have my XH's grandma's book that she would tape these clippings in.
It's a disease.

I used to, but now when I see recipe I like I look for them online and add them to Paprika. It's cut down the clutter considerably!

Other than a few cookie and pie recipes, I have pitched all my recipes. I can look it up online or I took some pictures of some recipes with my phone.

I realized I was just googling any recipe I needed and using my ipad to view it....so I finally broke down and got rid of all my recipe books and my recipe box with the clippings. It killed me the day I did it...but I never even think about it now.

You described me to a tee. It's a sickness! lol Yes. I have a binder full when I was more optimistic about how I was going to make them. Then I just started throwing hem into boxes in a closet. But I still do it!!!!!

I definitely do! I have a pile on a shelf in the dining room from BH&G magazines that look so delicious and surely I'll get around to making someday.

I used to, but I recently went through them all and threw out most of the random ones clipped from newspapers/magazines. I still have about 15 cookbooks, old cooking magazines, the first 2peas cookbook , and a binder of old family recipes. I rarely look at any of those. I use Paprika now for most of my recipe collecting/organizing.

I am the same as many of you, over stuffed file box & several inch high stack on top of the box.
I did get rid of all my cookbooks years ago. I tend to print recipes I like on Pinterest....but that just adds clutter. So, maybe I'll add recipes to the long list of things I need to attend to. Y'all are inspiring me!

Raising my hand! I have clipped recipes in a clear plastic box, when (if) I try one of these new recipes and it is a hit I add to my recipe binder. In this binder I keep the recipes in clear plastic sleeve by category. The recipe binder only has tried and true recipes. If the new recipe is not a hit I toss it into the recycling bin. I must admit though, that the clipped pile of recipes to try is embarrassingly large. I think I could cook a new recipe every night and never cook the same thing twice My family works on the star award system (our own system ) We have 5 family members and we all vote on a new recipe. A 5 star recipe = we ALL liked it, 4 star = 4 of us liked it and 1 did not, 3 star etc.......If we have a 2 star recipe and it DH and I that liked it, I do keep those ones, but usually 2 stars and less the recipe gets tossed.

I used to but I went through the stack, googled the recipes and pinned them to my Pinterest recipe boards and tossed the paper. Now whenever I find a recipe in a magazine or cookbook, I google it online. This is exactly what i did as well. It is awesome! It's one of my favorite uses of Pinterest. Doing this also helped me cull that big stack. I had a lot of "what was I thinking with this?" recipes in the pile. I also find that I read the majority of magazines in Zinnio on my iPad. I can bookmark recipes or screen cap them and Pin them this way, too. I still keep some recipes in paper form. Years ago, I collected all the family recipes passed down through the years, typed them in a document and made binders for members of my family. I still have that and always will.

I always think that (someday) I'll finally use all those recipes I've saved and put together a weekly or monthly recipe rotation and an actual 'meal plan' for us. HAHAHAHA!!!

I do like the 1-5 star rating method; that would cut down on saving ones that we really didn't like all that much. Or, at the very least I could make the ones we like easier to find!
