My problem with using Pinterest is that you are 100% at the mercy of both Pinterest and the blog/location of the original recipe.
I've been (slowly) adding all of my favorite recipes to Paprika (although I guess technically, I'm still at the mercy of Paprika but I feel like since it's a paid app, they will at least give me notice if they are shutting down).
I whittled all of my cookbooks down to just 1 shelf a couple of years ago and I realized that I haven't ever looked in any of them with the exception of 1 so I'm slowly going through those and seeing if there are any marked recipes and then adding those to Paprika also. For the most part, all it takes is a quick Google to find the recipe and import it.

perhaps I should just scan / save the recipes I use most often onto my computer... then I'll only have to search ONE place for them!

Omg I'm awful with this.
I'll cut out the recipe. Then I place it in my recipe binder. I'll think about the recipe. I'll even, sometimes, make a shopping list.
Then I forget all about it. But I keep adding recipes to the binder. Until the binder is a mess.
Then I get annoyed. Tell myself wth am I keeping these for, if I want to make something I can get it online. Then I chuck the whole thing in the bin.lol
Yeah I might need help. :-)

I did that for several years, then I realized I don't like to cook! I threw most of them away. I now have 8.5x11 binders. I print out recipes or glue the smaller ones onto paper and put them in a page protector. That's where I keep my favorite recipes. Luckily I haven't bought too many cookbooks. Those stay in my bedroom and I look through them on the rare occasion.

That I will pin something, and it won't be there when I want it because the blog shut down or whatever. That has happened a few times and I was so disappointed that I could no longer find that recipe.

My problem with Pinterest and Paprika is having to pull up the recipes on an electronic device. I don't trust myself in the kitchen. I can see myself knocking it on the floor, spilling on it, scratching it with a knife,.... So if I am trying a new recipe, I'll copy and paste it to a word document and print. If I don't like it, it gets thrown away.

I used to.
Then I moved. The boxes/baskets of those clippings were heavy!!! I knew they were all from magazines so I just tossed all of them!
I then stopped buying so many magazines!
I will make a point to make the recipes I do find right away to see if they are keepers!

I used to but I went through the stack, googled the recipes and pinned them to my Pinterest recipe boards and tossed the paper. Now whenever I find a recipe in a magazine or cookbook, I google it online. I did this a couple of months ago. I had some clippings from when I was in college almost 20 years ago! I did the same with all the decor and kids parties and housekeeping tear sheets too. What is interesting is that my tastes have changed so much over the years that I probably only ended up keeping about 10% of what I had clipped! And all those fancy frou frou recipes with exotic ingredients? Not happening with my kids or my husband so I just tossed them. My problem with using Pinterest is that you are 100% at the mercy of both Pinterest and the blog/location of the original recipe. I've had that happen but I have been able to find the recipe again in all instances by googling the blog name and recipe name. Now any tried and true recipes are printed out and put in a binder that is my master cookbook.

Not anymore. I used to have a 3-ring binder full of them and I just purged it and threw out 90% of them. They were taking upspace and I never tried them out. Online is the only way to go for me.

I have a shelf of cookbooks, many of which I'll keep because they are my mother's and where else am I gonna go if I need authentic Louisiana recipes someday?! I do still use The Joy of Cooking and all of the Ina Garten ones and the Cake Doctor ones too. Besides those I have a bunch of recipes I've ripped out of mags or printed shoved in between these cookbooks and my recipe binder that I went through a couple of years ago and purged a lot. For some things I just view the recipes I've pinned on my iPad, but more complicated recipes I like to have a hard copy to refer to. If the recipe turns out to be a dud I toss the printed copy, so the stack of printouts is keepers awaiting filing.

I have a lot of clipped recipes, but every week I sit down with the grocery sale paper and flip through the file (I actually have 4 different file folders, they are sorted into dessert/main dish/side dish/breakfast and breads) and pick out some new recipes to try that use some of the things that are on sale.
I would never stop clipping recipes! We love trying new recipes, and I don't like online recipes, I like having them physically in front of me.
I know that I won't ever try all of the recipes I have clipped, because new ones are always going into the files. And sometimes when I am deciding between 2 new recipes to try, the deciding factor is "well, I know THIS one has been in the file for a really long time".

Reformed recipe clipper here. Back in the spring I went through them and tossed about 99.9% into the recycling bin. I don't cook much anymore and when I do I search on the internet. Haven't missed them a bit!

I put the date on cut out or printed recipes. If I don't make it within year, I toss it. If I make it and like it, I put it on a recipe card and keep it in my book.

When i'm subscribing to a magazine I do, but usually I dont' have some thing like that to clip. There was a year I was subscribing to BHG, Real Simple, and Rachel Ray all at the same time. I clipped a ton that year and found a few family favorites (Like teriyaki sloppy joes) but most of the binder of recipes I saved from that year have never been used.
I have several recipe books I keep around for one or two specific recipes though.

I print recipes, sometimes tear them out magazines, email them to myself, save to one note, and some other recipe keeper I have. They still rarely get made!

I love to cook and love to try new recipes. I can't tell you how many "systems" I've had over the years to organize my recipes. About a year ago, I settled on a means to handle all those clipped recipes. It's not only working for those but it's developing into a way to organize ALL my recipes. I have lots of cookbooks and for many, many years I have written on the covers the name and page number of any recipe I wanted to remember to make again. But then when you get soooooo many recipe books... which book is it in? So I'd take them down one by one and squint at the cover to see if the recipe I was looking for was in that book. Laborious, but it worked. Then there were all those clipped recipes. I started gluing them to recipe cards, but geesh. Too bulky. Then I started gluing them into a spiral notebook with dividers. That worked, but eventually the book was as full of recipes I had tried and crossed out as the ones that were keepers. That seemed counterproductive. So I started using file folders. I have a couple dozen broken down into categories that make sense to me (beef, poultry, pork, lamb, game meat, seafood, pasta, grilling, sides, salads, soups & stews, "whole" desserts, cookies and candies, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, hors d'oeuvres, dinner party menu recipes, various ethnic categories, breads, breakfast, and so forth). Each folder has a red sheet of paper in it. Untried recipes go in front of the red sheet with tried-and-liked behind it. If I try it and we don't like it? I toss it. That was working so well, I've taken it a step further. When I make a recipe out of one of my recipe books or from my recipe file, I write the name of the recipe and location (name of book & page number usually) on the front of the appropriate folder. So now if I see great looking pork chops at the market or we have a taste for salmon... I grab the appropriate folder and scan for either a new recipe to try or an old tried-and-true. This may sound complicated, but it's actually quite simple. It appeals to my sense of organization and has been easy for me to use and maintain. I really like a printed out recipe in front of me. I just haven't been able to convert to digital. Plus, I would miss seeing all those wonderful old handwritten recipes in my grandmother's handwriting, or my husband's grandmother, or my mother. We've all written in the margins of recipe books for years. There's history there I just can't let go of. Wow... long-winded answer to your question, huh? Short answer? Yes, I have piles of recipes.

I don't count the old 'church cookbook' as clutter, or any heirloom recipe books... those are part of my 'collection.' LOL!! what dancing banana.?? I like the dancing banana!! I don't see him in my smileys-- ? ? oh, wait-- there's a whole list of them I never paid attention to before!! never mind!! (---I must confess, this post was mostly just to check for the dancing banana, lol!!) I didn't think banana, I thought it was a pickle. Now I think you are right.

Of course I do! My recipes are put into different coloured folders: red for beef and lamb, yellow for cakes and slices, pink for chicken and pork, green for vegetables etc etc. I recently went through the folders and culled a lot of recipes, but to be honest I put more new ones in there than what I throw out.

So very guilty. And DH is too. The problem is compounded by the fact that most of the time our kids aren't home and DH travels often, so full on cooking rarely needs to happen.
