Ok. So, I am 10 days shy of 47. I have skipped 2 periods this year and had 2 periods in one month, too. So, I'm pretty sure I'm in the peri menopausal stages. Yippee!
In the last 2 months I have noticed that right on the inner edge of my labia, I get a hard knot-like spot. It seems to appear right about the time I should have a period. I guess it could be something like an in-grown hair, but again, it goes away in about a weeks time. It has that same sensation as under the skin acne.
Any ideas?

Just make a call to your doctors, they may still want to see you...

I don't know, but I would definitely go visit my doc and have it checked. Hope it's nothing serious and you can get confirmation of that soon.

I don't know, but it does sound hormonal, doesn't it? A small cyst maybe? I often get "the period spot" on my face. There's no reason why something similar shouldn't come up elsewhere.

I learned a loooong time ago that there are lubricating ducts down there and they can get blocked. When it happened to me it hurt like a mother, and I was convinced that I had herpes....my ex was cheating on me...not because I'm a whore. Although it only happened to me once, not monthly, it could be the same thing.

Sorry, but your cheating/whore thing made me laugh out loud, pee myself a little and I would have farted on my dog but I don't have a dog.

Is it in the same spot each time?
I get an ingrown hair, it seems, down there, too. Now I am re-thinking it after reading your post. Maybe that is not what it is... I don't get a period anymore (hysterectomy), but I do still have one ovary. I am 44.

But I want to know if your labia was wearing tiny shorts and a pair of stilettos to the park? That's the only way we'll know for sure if sluttiness was the cause.

I've had the Bartholin glands get inflamed and nasty. It hurts like a mother until it goes down. Stress aggravates it for me.

It could be a pimple. They can get largish and hurt like a mo-fo until they go away. Or it could be a Bartholin gland cyst. But I think you have to get those drained by a dr?

A friend of mine experienced something similar while she was peri-menopausal. She was angry at her husband and demanded that her doctor test her for every STD in the book. Her doctor did the tests but assured her that he thought it was caused by hormonal changes. She received a clean bill of health, though she still complains about "lumps in (her) vagina." And, with that...I think I've officially typed "vagina" enough times to earn a special badge here

Ok, I googled that and it does appear to be like the description and the very graphic images! I will pay more attention over the next day or 2 and see what develops. I am am not sure if you were asking me or scorpeao but let me assure you that you won't catch THIS jumbo sized marshmallow in short-shorts OR stilettos lest I am being held at gunpoint - by someone with a permit, of course!

I'm not sure to whom Z*g was directing her post, but I was diagnosed by my gyn with a blocked lubricating duct after I ran into his office in a panic.

I'm not sure to whom Z*g was directing her post, but I was diagnosed by my gyn with a blocked lubricating duct after I ran into his office in a panic. A lump on the labia isn't probably the same thing and a Bartholin gland cyst is very very painful unless somehow she's getting a cyst there regularly each month and it's clearing itself up and it's not on the outer edges of the labia, as I was picturing. But you'll only know for sure if you go in and have it looked at. I have had my share of Lady Troubles and I've had those mysterious sore bumps on occasion, they always turned out to be an inflamed follicle and I actually haven't had one in over five years, since my hysterectomy, though I still have my ovaries. In retrospect it seemed to be associated with menstrual product irritation, either a pad or liner or even the string of a tampon. I also had a Bartholin gland cyst once and it was extremely painful, looked more like a testicle than a bump (lol...the jokes I made about that thing, nurses aren't shy), and I had to have a minor surgery to fix it. So I wasn't really directing comments at anyone, just offering insight.

But, to get an ingrown hair each month? I guess it's possible. I just don't have the time or patience to "go bare" there. It's hard enough just providing regular maintenance! I thought maybe it be it could be contributed to blood vessels or something during my period. It's sore, but not that I need to take meds.

Yes, it's odd to have anything that appears each month but whether the connection is hormonal or instead from some external irritation, idk. So don't hesitate to go in and get checked out!

I only had it once and the doctor said it was likely caused by running in cotton underwear. It was pretty painful, but it cleared up on its own...he suggested sitting in a hot tub.

Hmmm..... I detected a lump yesterday too. Looks like I should be making a doctor's appointment too.
