Dh is is always amazed that I can recite this by heart. He's older and missed the awesomeness that was School House Rock.

Hee hee. Love me some Schoolhouse Rock!!! I teach American Government and we watch all the "America Rock" ones in class (Preamble, Shot Heard 'Round the World, I'm Just a Bill, etc.) in class. I consider it part of the kids' cultural literacy!

Thanks... now I'm watching School House Rock "I'm just a Bill" and then I want to see "Conjunction Junction". Oh, and "Elementary, My Dear" and "Figure Eight" with the ice skating girl... time suck ahead!!!

Wow I don't remember that one at all - i wonder if it was a later one, after I was older and no longer glued to Saturday morning cartoons. You're right, that one is the definitive SHR for Fourth of July!

Love it!
I have a group of young women sleeping over with DD right now who performed for years together as kids. They did Schoolhouse Rock one summer, about 10 years ago. Brings back great memories...
Now I'm going to have those songs going through my head all day!

I've had "Patriot's Rising" on in the background all morning (the story of the American Revolution) and the last episode covered the Boston Tea Party. It has been fun. I am learning about early snipers right now, rouges that they were.

Imagine a 17 year old standing up in her senior year of government class singing this song for a grade.
Yep, that was me and about 18 other students singing the preamble of the Constitution.
We couldn't say it but we could sing it.
Thank you School House Rock!

We couldn't say it but we could sing it. Thank you School House Rock! Oh, yes! We sing it and then sing it some more! I have my students write it down for their test grade, but they are totally singing it in their heads or mouthing the words as they write it.

I sometimes show Schoolhouse Rock videos to my elementary music classes as a reward at the end of class - they love them! I like to show the America Rock and Grammar Rock ones the most because I don't think that social studies and grammar are taught well enough in elementary school (no fault of the teachers' - just reality in our test-happy society).

I homeschooled my kids and I used SHR to teach them the Preamble. My daughter is very musical and SHR was her preferred method of learning. She's 21 now and I heard her singing 'Interplanet Janet' a few days ago.

I have the CD of all of the songs- math, science, history, parts of speech. Loved them.
