i've read posts from the last couple days
it seems that very few of you actually enjoy the firework part of the 4th!
too loud, inconsiderate, too crowded, people are idiots, you'll shoot your eye out!
i'd love to hear from some of you that actually 'oooohhhh and ahhhhhh'
and spell your own name with a sparkler

I love fireworks, and I don't really mind the noise from them. My husband also loves them. We don't go to where the big crowds are and don't enjoy fighting traffic, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them when viewed from different locations.

Love fireworks. Love them!
Love the acrid smokey smell they emit. I love seeing kids running with sparklers and spelling their name before it fizzles out
Love the thrill of watching daddy light it, and run away before it starts shooting off
Love watching the city sponsored big booms in the sky
Love the little black wormy things that fizzle up like weird black snakes
love the silly ones that just go 'voomm..voom' and spin around and around.
Love them.

I enjoy our town's official display at the park, though we don't go anywhere close. We have a friend whose apartment is on a hill overlooking the park, so we hang out with her and get an excellent view without the traffic headaches.
And Disney fireworks....ahhhh!!

I enjoy them. We used to do them at my parents when they had 13 acres and no neighbors! When I was little, we would also do them, but nothing real big and not for a long time so as not to disrupt the neighbors. Mostly just stuff on the ground that is pretty but not a lot of noise.
We went to see the fireworks at this one park, they are so slow is getting the next one up. It took forever! I was not a fan, I need them to be much quicker.

I love them! I always stop and watch if I spot them when we're out in the summer. I live near sea world so they're nightly but we don't have a view from our house, but if I'm out to dinner I'll watch them. We went to watch the big bay boom last night, 4 coordinated shows, so awesome!

I love professionally done fireworks. We were at the fair about 10-15 years ago and didn't realize they were going to do fireworks on Friday nights instead of the 4th of July (due to a shooting a few years before). Anyway, we were literally right next to where they were shooting them off and it was AWESOME! The beauty, the big boom, everything. BUT, I hate fireworks set off by people who are doing it illegally! Last night we would hear a boom about every 5-10 minutes until 1:00 AM. Loved sparklers as a kid.

I love a good professional display. I hate "over the counter" fireworks, including sparklers.

I like professional ones, not illegal ones that start huge wildfires. I didn't end up watching any this year because it was too cloudy, I was bummed. But luckily we can see the Sea World fireworks they light off every night in summer from a park near our house.
My favorite fireworks are the ones that look like they bloom out like a palm tree and then sparkle as they disperse in the air.

Love them. You just described my childhood fireworks out in the country Those snake things were so cool!! The other best fireworks I've seen was when dh got tickets to a boat that cruised out into the Puget Sound while the professional fireworks were showing. That was awesome because it was right there and we were right under them. Now I have dogs, have to work the next day and live in a small neighborhood. I hate that people don't think about others and their animals and/or work and PTSD. We had someone's house completely destroyed by their neighbors fireworks. Luckily the house owners were not home and were out to dinner.

When I lived in the city, the city used to do a New Year's thing. A free party in the downtown park and at midnight let fireworks off. It was a professional display and just beautiful.
I would have loved to see the one at Niagara Falls, don't know if they still do it or not. I heard it was spectacular.
I don't care for backyard displays. Although I love to watch the wonder in the eyes of young children when they have sparklers.

I LOVE them! We drive downtown every year to watch one of the best displays in the country. It's worth dealing with the crowds and the crazy parking... The show is spectacular! The Fourth is my favorite holiday.

I like them. For most of the last 30 years, I've watched them with DH at the lake cabin where the town chamber does a professional display over the lake. It's just beautiful. The only thing I don't like is that one of our current dogs is terrified of anything loud like that.
The best fireworks I've ever been to was in Minneapolis one year. It was a HUGE fireworks display completely timed to patriotic music that was simulcast over the radio. It was amazing, and the grand finale was insane. There were so many going off at once you almost couldn't see them through the smoke.

I like big fireworks shows. We used to go to the Yacht Club at home every year, and the city shot fireworks off a boat. Since they were shot on the water, people were able to spread out, and traffic issues were minimized.
Now, I don't really go out of my way for them. I have never been to the big one here. I suspect traffic is insane. At places like Disney where they are easily available, I watch if I am passing by, but I don't stake out a place hours in advance. I do think they are lovely when I catch them, and I love it when I am in a hotel with a fireworks view.
I don't like kids and teens shooting off fireworks at all hours in a residential neighborhood. I would love it if there was a 2 hour window when it was OK, rather than the occasional fireworks going off at 6:00, 7:34, 8:00, 8:15, 9-11, 12, 2, and 4. Last night was bad for my poor pup, and I expect more tonight.

I think they are awesome! I loved watching my kids reactions when they first saw them (and understood them, not babies). I think they are beautiful and colorful!

I love fireworks. Luckily, I can see fireworks from multiple towns from my front porch or back deck. So I don't have to travel.
And I don't. Largely because of the crowds and the stupidity of people. People are generally stupid, but give them alcohol and access to explosives -- and that's how I ended up with a scar from some damn fool who thought it was funny to set off a "small" rocket amongst the crowd of people waiting for the fireworks to start. If I had turned, I could have gotten it in the chest or face and a child could have been seriously injured. Guy gave me a shrug and a sullen "Sorry" when his wife yelled at him. Guy should have been arrested, IMO. Cops could not be bothered to do anything. After that, I have zero interest in returning to a crowd to see fireworks.
I still love fireworks and am happy to see them at Disney and other places where people are prevented from hurting others.

I was among the first to say I don't like fireworks. I don't hate them but they don't do anything for me. I liked when my kids were small, watching the excitement on their faces.
Best fireworks ever? A gf and I planned a group outing to Great Adventure because I was interested in Fred. He and I were at the tippy top of the Ferris wheel watching the fireworks below us.

Love love love them! But...I'm married to a Desert Storm Combat Veteran who does not do well with them at all, understandably. So, I no longer attend our town's display. He encourages me to go with friends instead but some things you just give up for love and this is a small price to pay for all that he does for me and my comfort.

I love fireworks. I love professional displays, and I love well-organized, as-safe-as-they-can-be legal amateur displays. We used to go all-out for Independence Day -- I had a notebook full of notes about which multi-shot units I liked, and which shells I liked -- single boom shells that go 300 feet into the air before they do one big boom and spread out with special effects. You have to organize those things and get them ready, or you end up with the amateur displays that you wait five minutes between explosions. All you have to do is unwind *all* of the fuses during daylight, make sure there are no obstructions in the path between the organized fireworks and the launch tubes, and make sure you have fire extinguishers and garden hoses at the ready. And a couple of five-gallon buckets filled with water to dunk sizzling duds into! Gah, I love fireworks. We don't do them any more because we can't afford them, but that is the only reason. There's a town down the road that has a nice display. Unfortunately, they do it on the Fourth precisely, and we have to get up at 4:30 for work. So we missed it this year. Oh -- there was a girl on the news this weekend, one of the young new presenters, and they had her doing a remote at a fireworks stand. She actually said, "If you're scared of the dangerous bottle rockets, you can always get nice, safe sparklers for the little kids." == Wrong! Wrongest advice ever! I love fireworks, but I never let my children touch sparklers when they were little! If they have them now, I don't know it.

I love a good professional display. I definitely don't like loud fireworks and have always been a bit nervous about handling them myself.

I like professional fireworks.
I think anyone who tries to set them off themselves is an idiot. It's just not worth the possible accident/injury/destruction.
It blows my mind that they are still legal in some places.
Every city and suburb here has an incredible professional display that you can see from multiple locations for free. There is no logical reason for individuals to shoot them off.
I did not hear or see any illegal fireworks this weekend. My town sets up an emergency number to report illegal fireworks and blasts it all over social media as well as on our water bills. The penalties are very high and the police and fire marshal respond to every report.

I love professional shows. I don't like them in the hands of individuals, because too many people are idiots with them.
