Well, really, she's just a kitten, only 8 wks old. I think she was taken too soon from her mama, but I didn't get a say in that.
She eats her dry kitten food just fine, drinks water, and can get up on something as high as our coffee table with just one jump.
She also bathes herself. I know she does, as I've seen her do it. But several times she has shared her smelly butt with me. If it is really, really bad, I'll wipe her with a wet piece of tissue.
But other times, oh too many other times in just the few days I've had her... I can't help but sing the Smelly Cat song to her.
Any ideas how to encourage her to clean her butt better, or sooner, or something? The only other time I've had this problem with a cat, I also had a littermate for him who did all the cleaning of the butthole area. My older cat is not that cool with her even being here yet, much less with cleaning her butt for her!

Is she having runny poop? Her rear end really shouldn't be messy after she poops if the poop is normal. Has the vet checked her for worms? Or maybe the food doesn't agree with her?

I would routinely swipe her 'nethers' off with a baby wipe. I have a cat that lost her mama just as her eyes were opening, and she was bottle raised. She never covers her poops, so I guess that is something the mama cat may teach the babies.

That doesn't seem quite right. I got a kitten once that had quite smelly poops, and that smell remained on him. It turned out that he had some sort of intestinal parasite (giardia, I think) that was acquired from the mother/litter, and he had to be treated. You might want to ask your vet to test him for that.

When we took our 2 new girls to the vet for the first time, one of the things I brought up was that they seemed to have a freshness problem. Gassy, stinky bottoms, overall just not good. She said that it is very common in kittens and they would grow out of it. And they have.
