One of my dear friends has been awaiting a new set of lungs due to a condition called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Seven weeks ago she was put on an ECMO machine to help with the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in her blood. Her lungs and heart were just working too hard and she was getting weaker and weaker. The doctors did not want her to stay on the ECMO longer than 100 days, and she was at the halfway mark.
A set of lungs was matched to her late this afternoon, and she is undergoing a double lung transplant right now. Please pray for the surgery team, the recovery team, and for my friend as she has so much fighting still left to do. Her name is Robin.
Also, say a prayer for the family of the donor. Robin has struggled with the idea that someone had to die so she could have a second chance at life. Pray for her to be at peace, as well as peace for this grieving family.
Update: The transplant has been cancelled. Robin was prepped and on her way to the OR when the chief surgeon determined the lungs were NOT viable. Not clear as to the reason, though it looks like the lungs might have been too large. I've been texting back and forth with her daughter who is not taking this well. Thank you for your prayers and please keep them coming as a match needs to be found for Robin ASAP.

I'm so sorry to read this. I hope your friends surgery goes very well and she starts feeling better soon after her surgery.
My aunt had the same disease. I am glad your friend made it to transplant.

Many many prayers going up for your friend Robin, her surgical team and her family.
I pray the surgery is successful and the grieving family will find comfort in knowing their loved one gave life to Robin.

Prayers for a safe successful transplant. a little boy in one of my heart groups was on ECMO for over six months a couple years ago waiting for a new heart. He is doing great now. His twin is currently being listed for a transplant. good luck.

Many prayers for your friend. My dad was on the waiting list for the same transplant because IPF, but didn't get as lucky.

I'm sorry that those lungs did not work for your friend, but pray that a set of healthy, perfectly sized lungs are available soon.
I know three ladies that received lung transplants due to cystic fibrosis, and are doing very well.

Praying for Robin. I have two family members who are transplant recipients. I know it feels like an awful thing to pray for an organ to become available.

My Dad had IPF and received a double lung transplant in December 2009. We are fortunate to still have him with us today!! He had 2 false alarms before receiving his lungs. Don't lose hope!! Will keep your friend in my thoughts and prayers!
